Began awkwardly and then was hampered. Rdr rpt the intention was to race prominently, however, elected to take trail rnrs that showed superior speed. Commenced to race keenly and laid out, based on this rdr elected to improve, assumed lead passing 1600m. Travelled satisfactory and became under pressure approaching the 500m, whereby the gelding failed to respond to his riding and ultimately weakened noticeable over the final 200m. A post-race vet exam did not reveal any abs. Co-tnr undertook to rpt back, likely be spelled. Tnr was advised the gelding must trial before racing again.
