SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Doomben 13.5.17 – Race 7: Trainer E. Rayner’s explanation for failing to provide the Thoroughbred Identification Card for START WONDERING was accepted.

GENERAL

Following a report from the QRIC Integrity  Regulatory Unit, stewards interviewed trainer L. Birchley relating to horses that had accepted for today’s meeting. Mr Birchley advised that his three runners, in Races 2 and 4, had been stabled at his registered stables at Woodford until being transported this morning to his Eagle Farm stables. Mr Birchley was advised that he must notify stewards where his horses are located in the period leading up to race day.

Following a further report from the QRIC Integrity Regulatory Unit, trainer D. Weir was questioned regarding persons attending his horses at the property of trainer L. Birchley at Woodford. As initial inquiries were unable to confirm whether those persons were currently licensed, the matter was adjourned to enable stewards to make further inquiries as to their licence status.

Race 6: THE MAGIC MILLIONS ROSES – 2000M

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage, J. Doyle, the rider of OKLAHOMA GIRL, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against KENEDNA being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 300m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos it was established that in the early stages of the straight KENEDNA did shift out, resulting in OKLAHOMA GIRL being forced marginally wider, and that near the 200m KENEDNA again shifted out and brushed OKLAHOMA GIRL. Near the 50m, KENEDNA again shifted out and bumped OKLAHOMA GIRL. Stewards were of the view that the interference in the early stages of the home straight and near the 200m was not of significance, and that although the contact near the 50m did result in OKLAHOMA GIRL being inconvenienced, they were not satisfied that the amount of ground lost by OKLAHOMA GIRL exceeded the margin of a short neck separating both runners at the finish and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

THE PINNACLE – Connections advised that following today’s disappointing performance the filly would be sent for an immediate spell.

SAVVAN – Had to be eased approaching the 200m when tightened for room between LIPSTICK LOVER and INVINCIBELLA, which was taken out slightly by CANDIKA.

FALLACY – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward to obtain the position outside the leader near the 1000m.  Near the 400m had to be steadied from the heels of KENEDNA, which shifted out slightly.

SHENANDOAH – Raced three wide throughout.

Race 7: HARDY BROTHERS DOOMBEN CUP – 2000M

IT’S SOMEWHAT – J. Doyle accidentally dropped his whip near the 300m. J. Doyle reported that his mount was under pressure from the 800m and in his opinion did not handle today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

SENSE OF OCCASION – Raced three wide throughout. C. Brown pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used the whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m. As C. Brown had recently been penalised on two occasions in April, which included a suspension of his licence to ride and a fine, stewards determined that the appropriate penalty be a suspension of his licence for 7 days and a fine of $2000. As C. Brown had transport commitments, the dates applicable to the suspension will be determined at a later date.

Race 8: TAXIBOX BRC SPRINT – 1350M

SIR MOMENTS – Raced fiercely in the early stages.

FEDERAL – When questioned, J. Doyle stated that whilst he would have appreciated being further forward in the early stages, the gelding nonetheless did not sprint when placed under pressure and was very disappointing. Trainer D. Beadman’s stable representative advised that FEDERAL may be sent for a spell.

SPLURGE – Raced wide without cover. Performed disappointingly. O. Bosson reported that his mount never travelled well and was under pressure from the 800m. Co-trainer J. Richards could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and undertook to report back to stewards the results of blood tests which will be taken on Monday. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

MAN OF HIS WORD – Overraced in the early stages.
