Mayfield-Smith reported that the gelding had bled from both nostrils. LUCKY GO LUCKY will now be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to racing again must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

Race 3: DISCO ENTERTAINMENT CLASS 4 HHCAP 1050M

TARZAN When questioned, Ms T. Brooker explained that her mount was somewhat fractious prior to the start and in the barriers and that on jumping the gelding threw its head up and shifted out abruptly, making contact with the runner to its outside, resulting in her becoming unbalanced. She said that just after this TARZAN was slow to muster speed and approaching the first turn was inclined to hang out across the heels of FINAL OVER. She added that after this TARZAN continued to hang out badly and proved very difficult to get around the turns and when placed under pressure in the straight, the gelding did not respond and finished the race off poorly. Trainer S. Kendrick advised that since its last preparation TARZAN had undergone a wind operation and for this reason it races in a cross-over nose band. He added that the horse had trialled satisfactorily without that piece of gear, although it had previously raced in a cross-over nose band, however was of the view, after todayys performance, that the gelding may have resented racing with that gear. Mr Kendrick stated he would therefore consider removing that gear. Stewards nonetheless deemed the performance to be unacceptable and ordered that TARZAN trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to start again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

POWERFUL FLASH Apprentice M. McGillivray reported that the gelding raced three wide but with cover throughout, was off the bit and in his opinion raced flat. He said that rounding the home turn the horse was unable to quicken with the remainder of the field, however once placed under pressure in the straight, although it was inclined to lay in, it then finished the final 200m of the race off nicely. He added that he was of the opinion that the gelding may now be looking to be stepped up in distance.
