UH OH – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted App A. Sewell noted that the gelding was stepping up in distance from 1400m to 1800m today.  For this reason his instructions were to lead if there was a slow tempo otherwise settle in a handy position in an effort to ensure that the gelding ran out a strong 1800m.  App Sewell added that the tempo in his opinion was strong in the early stages and as a consequence he was reluctant to pressure the gelding passing the 1200m in an effort to prevent SALUTE THE PRINCE crossing forward of him.  App Sewell further added that he was then held up on the back of tiring runners from a point leaving the 600m until near the 300m after which he was able to secure clear running and the gelding finished the race off well.  App Sewell was of the opinion that the gelding would be better suited over similar distances when able to dictate terms off a slow tempo.
