Jockey Galloway stated that passing the 1200m it appeared to him that DEVILLS FIRE, racing on his inside, was content to set a slow tempo and bearing in mind his mount was back in distance today he elected to ride forward in an attempt to cross DEVILLS FIRE. Jockey Galloway added at the same time DEVILLS FIRE commenced to improve to his inside and as a result he was unable to cross to the lead and passing the 1100m restrained in an attempt to settle at the girth of DEVILLS FIRE however, the gelding continued to race strongly, despite his efforts, for some distance thereafter..

DEVILLS FIRE When questioned regarding the tactics adopted, specifically the strong tempo set in the early stages, jockey M. McGuren stated he was specifically instructed to lead and set a genuine tempo as the gelding had failed to finish off its previous races when leading in slowly run races.> Jockey McGuren added that passing the 1200m when KICKSTART MY HEART attempted to cross forward of him he allowed DEVILLS FIRE to improve so as to comply with his instructions and maintain a position to the inside of KICKSTART MY HEART, which subsequently resulted in the strong tempo being set.

However, when asked to improve to the inside of FAMOUS GROUSE upon straightening failed to quicken as expected and in her opinion was disappointing..
