General

As no riders were available ROYAL DOLLAR (Race1) and VIRGIN TERRITORY (Race4) were declared late scratchings at 10am and 1pm respectively.

Race 1: CLASS B HDCP 1030 Metres

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to review the start of the race after A Badger, rider of CRAZY AS ZOU, and App M Savva, rider of CURRENT FIGURES,  reported at scale they were of the belief their barriers were slow to open. After taking evidence from starter Mr G Honeywill and reviewing the race DVD footage, stewards found that both barriers were marginally slow to open, however given the minimal amount of ground lost at the start and the beaten margin of both horses, CRAZY AS ZOU and CURRENT FIGURES were declared runners.

Prior to the running of Race 2 the barriers were tested by the starter and stewards on two occasions without issue.

LAUDABLE LEMON – when questioned regarding the poor performance to be beaten 26 lengths rider T Chambers stated the gelding appeared to resent the sand kickback from the 600 metres onwards and further would derive fitness benefit from the run. A post race vet examination failed to reveal any abnormality.

CRAIGLEE MISSION – rider J Missen was reprimanded for using the whip more than 5 times prior to the 100 metres. In arriving at this decision stewards took into account the totality of whip use throughout the race by J Missen and also the manner in which the horse finished the race off.

CUSTODY – laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

CLANDESTINE AFFAIR – tightened for room between runners on jumping away and lost ground.

SANDY STRAITS – jumped out at the start and bumped another runner.

CRAZY AS ZOU – barrier marginally slow to open at the start

CURRENT FIGURES – barrier marginally slow to open at the start.

CUTTING JET – raced wide throughout the event

Race 2: MAIDEN PLATE 1170 Metres

LIFE BE IN IT – blundered on jumping and lost ground.

READY TO RUMBLE – raced wide throughout the event.

MY KINDA WOMAN – began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. Raced greenly throughout. Trainer D Heinemann explained the mare, which was having its first race start, had trialled well on the grass, however despite being beaten 16 lengths he was not disappointed with the performance today and was of the opinion MY KINDA WOMAN would derive benefit from race experience. His explanation was accepted.

SHADA PAREE – jumped out at the start and bumped another runner. At scale rider S Bayliss was of the opinion the mare to be striding short in its action on pulling up. A post race vet examination failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer B Murray indicated connections would review the immediate racing future of SHADA PAREE. In the circumstances stewards noted the explanation.

PURSLANE – bumped at the start.

Race 3: OPEN HDCP 1170 Metres

KLAMMER – raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

FIRE WITHIN - came together with another runner near the 800 metres and was steadied.

GLENTHORN AVENUE – bumped near the 800 metres.

LEGAZPI – when moving onto the track made heavy contact with the outside running rail. Examined by Club Vet behind the barriers and cleared to start.

ROCKLEA RAIDER – after being loaded into the barriers reared, dislodged rider S Bayliss and became cast for a short period of time. As S Bayliss injured his left foot and required ambulance attention, ROCKLEA RAIDER was declared a late scratching at 3:02pm. On declaration of correct weight stewards ordered all bets on ROCKLEA RAIDER refunded in full with deductions of 3 cents win and 3 cents place face value of all winning bets to apply. SP’s are subject to these deductions. Trainer B Robinson was advised ROCKLEA RAIDER would require a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start. A post race vet examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormality. After being treated by QAS staff S Bayliss was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Race 4: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1170 Metres

LIKE MY BROTHER –  when questioned regarding below market performance rider S Bayliss stated the gelding travelled comfortably to the 600 metres, however when placed under pressure from that point failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. Trainer B Murray stated LIKE MY BROTHER is best suited in its races when leading. A post race Vet examination of LIKE MY BROTHER failed to reveal any abnormality.

KURAMOS – App G Steele reported at scale that after initially beginning well the gelding was crossed by outside runners and from that point resented the sand kickback and failed to respond to her riding for the remainder of the event.

CHAYSE ’N’ MASON – raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.

Race 5: BENCHMARK 65 HDCP 1470 Metres

UNBOWED – after being loaded into the barriers, broke through, cantered a short distance, was quickly restrained, examined by Club Vet behind barriers and cleared to start.

CLOUDS – raced wide in early stages of the event.

TIVERTON – raced wide in early and middle stages of the event.

VERSCENT – rider J Hoopert reported at scale the mare was not suited by the fast pace in the early and middle stages of the event, and in his opinion VERSCENT may be better suited at this stage of its preparation in races over a shorter distance.

GAS BURNER – knuckled on jumping and lost ground.

CLANGORANDA – after being loaded into the barriers, broke through, quickly restrained, examined by Club Vet behind barriers and cleared to start.
