SUPPLEMENTARY
 
From Sunshine Coast Turf Club Meeting 12 March 2017 – Race 1
 
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into the handling of SHE GOES POP after initially raising concerns with jockey J. Lloyd’s riding from the 600m until leaving the 300m.  Of concern was jockey Lloyd’s decision to shift out to follow COBRA QUICK in an attempt to secure clear running to the outside of that horse, when clear running was afforded to him to the inside and shortly thereafter near the 400m when there was an opportunity to improve to the inside of FORDYCE KNIGHT.  Stewards were concerned that his tactics had resulted in SHE GOES POP being held up until approaching the 300m and also caused the horse to become unbalanced when he directed it out at that point making significant contact with GRACIOUS CHOICE.  Jockey Lloyd explained that as he felt COBRA QUICK was travelling better than any other runner and that GRACIOUS CHOICE was weakening he was of the view he would obtain clear running easily to the outside of COBRA QUICK.  Jockey Lloyd indicated that this did not occur as he had anticipated and that in hindsight it would have been a better option to remain on the fence.  Stewards were satisfied given the explanation tendered, that whilst jockey Lloyd had made an error in judgement and this error had effected the overall position of SHE GOES POP in the event, they were not satisfied that his decision was so unreasonable to be held culpable and took no further action.  No evidence was found during the perusal of betting transactions that would warrant further inquiries. 
 
 
Race 1: CFMEU Mining & Energy Maiden H’Cap – 800m
 
The start was delayed when KEEP ON LOVING YOU cast an off hind plate in the enclosure which required replating.
 
FLAMIN’ SID – Began awkwardly.  On returning to scale jockey A. Best reported that his mount raced greenly throughout the event.
 
KEEP ON LOVING YOU – Tightened for room at the start.  Hung out throughout the event proving difficult to ride out in the home straight.  Trainer P. Nolan Jnr was advised that a warning would be issued against the gelding’s racing manners.  Mr Nolan advised stewards that in light of the gelding’s performance today it would be spelled immediately.
 
HAPPY MEDIUM – Bumped at the start.
 
RAVEN’S WING – Slow to begin.
 
WINDMILL FOLLIES – Slow to begin.  Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 2: Ipswich Cup Tix On Sale Now Maiden SW Plate – 1690m
 
SICARIO – Slow to begin.
 
BERNIN CASH – Slow to begin.
 
LIGHT OF DE WORLD – Approaching the 1200m had to be steadied to avoid heels.
 
SWEET RED WINE – After being caught wide in the early stages was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader passing the 1400m and then commenced to overrace for a considerable distance after assuming this position.
 
 
Race 3: CFMEU Mining & Energy Labour Day Class 2 H’Cap – 1690m
 
FLYING SEBA was declared a late scratching at 11 a.m. after refusing to load onto the float.
 
PINOLINO – Jumped in the air at the start losing ground and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated.  Leaving the 500m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of another runner.
 
DAZZLING SHIRAZ – Began awkwardly.
 
MONTEZUMA – Slow into stride.
 
PERZERO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
FASSLER – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 4: Channel 7 QTIS 2YO Maiden WR 0.5kg H’Cap – 1200m
 
ON SHOW – Slow to begin.
 
PABULUM – Bumped at the start.  Leaving the 1000m brushed the running rail, became unbalanced and lost ground.
 
MAY I SAY – Bumped at the start.
 
OUR KINGSMAN – Began awkwardly.
 
FANTASTIC HALO – Near the 700m after being crossed by another runner was forced to shift out to avoid heels.  Jockey R. Stewart indicated that connections had informed him that in light of today’s performance they would be sending the filly for a spell.
 
SWEET ORPHAN – Near the 700m was forced wider on the track by another runner.
 
SMARTY JACK – Near the 700m was forced wider on the track by another runner.   
 
 
Race 5: Family Fun Labour Day 1 May Class 4 H’Cap – 1515m
 
GRESELIN – Approaching the 1000m when the pace of the race steadied shifted out abruptly to avoid heels.
 
STROMBO – Approaching the 1000m was forced wider on the track by another runner and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
LAKOTA SIOUX – Approaching the 1000m was forced wider on the track by another runner and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
ROYAL ROULETTE – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight.
 
MAKEADANE – A post race veterinray examination revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils during the event.  Trainer J.P. Thompson was advised that the gelding will now incur a mandatory 3 month ban and would be required to gallop 1000m prior to its next start.
 
 
Race 6: City Of Ipswich Fillies & Mares Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
 
CLEVER CHLOE – Trainer D. Vandyke advised that from the inside draw the horse will be ridden forward today with the intention of being ridden on the pace.  Slow to begin and raced in the second half of the field.  On returning to scale jockey M. Cahill could offer no tangible explanation in the disappointing performance of the mare.  Trainer Vandyke advised stewards that in light of the performance today he would now review the mare’s current preparation, which may include sending it for a spell.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
STELLA GRIS – Cast an off fore plate on jumping away.  Bumped on jumping away.
 
SO SERENE – Tightened for room at the start.
 
DUNN GREAT – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped another runner.
 
SWEET SAVANNAH – Bumped at the start.
 
HUSSON BOOTS – Bumped on jumping away.
 
 
Race 7: The Qld Times Colts, Geldings & Entires Class 1 H’Cap – 1200m
 
Upon arrival at the barriers it was noted that SMART DEVIL was wearing blinkers despite having been advertised that the blinkers would be removed for today’s race.  Stewards ordered the blinkers be removed in accordance with the advertised gear change.  Trainer B. Laming’s stable representative advised stewards that an error had been made when saddling and as such stewards issued Mr Laming with a $100 fine.  
 
SMART DEVIL – Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.  On returning to scale jockey J. Byrne advised that in his opinion the gelding was reluctant to race between runners today however, ran on strongly in the home straight when able to secure unimpeded running.  Jockey Byrne added that he had advised connections to reapply the blinkers to the horse’s gear.
 
MR MALU – Raced wide throughout.
 
TE RANGI – Raced wide throughout.

Race 8:  XXXX Summer Class 6 H’Cap – 1100m
 
After becoming cast in the barriers ONE IN ONE OUT was withdrawn by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice at 4.28 p.m.  All monies invested on ONE IN ONE OUT were ordered to be refunded.  Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 4.28 p.m.:-

Trainer S. Watters was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.
 
VIENNA QUEEN – Began awkwardly. Cast an off fore plate in running. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg.
 
BELFLYER – Hung out in the straight.
 
SWEET REPEAT – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
INVINCIBLE EXPRESS – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
KHALEEQ - A post race veterinary examinaiton revealed the gelding to have sustained an injury to the right off fore tendon.  Trainer D. Forster will be advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to the gelding racing again.
