Race 1: Golden Downs Ultimate Enjoyment Class 3 Plate – 1500m

BAY RAIDER – Tightened for room on jumping away.

SWIPPA DA MOUSE – Tightened for room on jumping away.  Steadied when placed in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. Apprentice J. Hodge, rider of CLANGORANDA,  was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances as his mount shifted in at this stage.

BLUE STAR – Apprentice N. Keal reported his mount failed to handle the heavy track conditions.

Race 2: Golden Shores Herey Bay Maiden Plate – 1200m

JOYFILY – Slow to begin. Jockey G. Steele reported her mount’s saddle slipped and was not comfortable in the rain affected conditions and made the 800m turn  very awkwardly.

SHE’S FOR RANSOM – Threw its head up as the start was effected, striking its rider in the face and as a result lost ground. Raced wide until the 600m.

JOURNALIST – Made the 800m turn awkwardly and shifted out and raced wide from that point onwards.

ARGO’S REVENGE –  Apprentice S. Alam, rider of BROWN LINES, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that at a point near the 800m he allowed his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of ARGO’S REVENGE, resulting in jockey J. Woodhouse having to take hold of that gelding and check his mount this stage of the race. Apprentice Alam was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days, to commence at midnight, 17 June and to expire at midnight, 27 June.

Race 3: Butler McDermott Lawyers Benchmark 58 H’cap – 1900m

WIMPOLE STREET – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Rider N Keal was questioned regarding his tactics adopted from the 800m when it appeared he had opportunity to improve on the back of the eventual winner SLALOM and failed to pressure his mount at this point. Apprentice N Keal advised stewards that as he had been informed that WIMPOLE STREET possesses a short sprint that he was to refrain from overly pressuring the gelding until near the 500m. Stewards advised apprentice Keal that in similar circumstances whilst he should be mindful of his instructions he had erred on this occasion as he should have taken advantage of this opportunity, however given his status as an apprentice, no further action would be taken.

GENERAL ASSAULT – Jockey B. Appo reported his mount hung out throughout, placing him at a disadvantage from the 400m onwards.

ENVIRONMENTAL – Hung out after passing the winning post on the first occasion and made the 1200m turn wide.

FAMECHON BARONESS – Apprentice H. Phillips reported her mount did not travel comfortably at any stage in the rain affected conditions.

SLALOM – Stewards questioned Mr B. Sturgess, trainer of the winner, SLALOM, regarding the seemingly improved performance. He indicated that the horse appreciates a heavy track and performs best on rain affected conditions, with its only other 2 wins being on heavy tracks.  He added the removal of the butterfly bit for today was also, in his opinion, appreciated by the gelding, and indicated that with the significant step back in class from its most recent start he had expected a forward showing.

Race 4: Beavis & Bartels Benchmark 58 H’cap – 800m

EARLSTOUN RULER – Slow to begin.

SOCIETY QUEEN – Buffeted between runners at the start. Buffeted between runners from the 700m until leaving the 600m. Had to be steadied when racing in restricted room near the 400m.  A post race veterinary examination revealed a deep laceration to the near fore canon.

ALLENA – Laid out from the start and made contact with another runner near the 700m and again approaching the 600m. Checked after passing the winning post. M Savva, the rider of DRAGON STREET was reprimanded for shifting ground when not clear.

DRAGON STREET – Buffeted between runners from the 700m until leaving the 600m.

JEPTOO – Laid in from the start of the event until approaching the 400m.

Race 5:  Golden Lifestyle QTIS 3yo Class 1 H’cap – 1060m

ATOMIC MISSILE – Prior to the start was inspected by the veterinary surgeon after being kicked on the near-side shoulder during the preliminary and was cleared to start. Tightened for room at the start and had to be checked.

DOUMBEK – Tightened for room at the start and had to be checked.  Hung out and raced wide from the 700m.

LA RANA TORO – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

AQUAJEWEL – Raced wide throughout.

HIDDEN SEQUEL – Apprentice M. Schrapel reported that his mount did not travel comfortably in the rain affected conditions at any stage of the event. He therefore steadied  approaching the 800m turn when racing in restricted room in an attempt to have the horse travel more comfortably.  Was inconvenienced by another runner near the 200m.

MAKE NO MISTAKE – Apprentice N. Keal reported his mount was not comfortable in the rain affected conditions.

Race 6: Golden Downs Brisbane Class 2 H’cap – 1060m

Following the running of this race stewards inquired into the start after DAVE’S VALOR remained in the starting stalls and a barrier attendant was standing in the stall with the horse.  Evidence was taken from all riders and starter Russell Hanson who advised that he had not effected the start of this race  and that he believed the barriers had somehow malfunctioned and opened prematurely. A number of riders also indicated that they had been disadvantaged as a result. Stewards acting under AR134 ruled that as Mr Hanson had not effected the start, a no-race was declared and that all monies invested on this event would be refunded. Stewards also ruled that as the majority of the field had completed the course the race could therefore not be re-run.

Race 7: Keith Beavis Memorial Kilcoy Cup Winter Prov. Sprinters Heat BM 75 H’cap – 1200m

The start of this race was delayed due to the extended delay with correct weight after the running of Race 6.

REIGNING THUNDER – Correct weight was delayed when N. Tomizawa requested to view the video footage to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge an objection, however  he ultimately decided he did not have grounds and correct weight was subsequently declared.  Checked near the 1000m when tightened for room to the inside of CONFRONTING, which was taken in by LIMERICK MOON.  Stewards were not satisfied that LIMERICK MOON shifted in without involvement from the runner to the outside and therefore took no further action.

PRECISION STRIKE – Slow to begin.

NAKANAI – Slow to begin

ORADONNA – Tightened for room shortly after the start and had to be checked.

MARKSFIELD – Shortly after the start was buffeted by another runner.

BELLE EXPRESS – Placed in restricted room and had to be steadied near the 800m.

CARBON TAIKUN - Placed in restricted room and had to be steadied near the 800m.

CONFRONTING – Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 800m.

KWANZA – Shifted in despite the efforts of its rider at the 800m and inconvenienced other runners.
