Race 1: Champ Resources Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st HOT LOVE HIGHWAY 2nd ROCKCHESTA 3rd ITHAKOS 4th - THE CLANG AFFAIR

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Jockey A. Butler, the rider of ITHAKOS, viewed the photo finish print for second. After doing so, he was satisfied as to the judge’s placing and correct weight was declared.

HOT LOVE HIGHWAY - Slow to begin. Near the 700 metres was eased from the heels of another runner and shifted out.

ANSTEAD - Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg. Trainer J. Lancaster was advised that she must provide a veterinary clearance prior to ANSTEAD being permitted to race again.

MISS SATINE - Knuckled on jumping.

THE CLANG AFFAIR - Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had blood in the off side nostril, which was determined to be caused as a result of trauma.

BATTLERS TOO - Proved difficult to load into the barriers, then was slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout.

STRADATINI - A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had sustained an injury to its near fore fetlock. A veterinary clearance will be required prior to STRADATINI being permitted to race again.

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, given the margin between first and second of a short head, stewards reviewed the video films of the concluding stages and determined that no objection was warranted.

DAM FLASH - Apprentice M McGillivray was fined $200 under A.R. 137A for using his whip on 5 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the gelding, trainer D. Gardiner said that the blinkers had been added to the gelding's gear for its most recent start, however he was of the view that the horse was not overly disappointing on that occasion. He added that he was satisfied with the manner in which the gelding was ridden today. Mr Gardiner said that he did not support the horse and was unaware of any stable support. Given that the horse had firmed significantly in off-course betting markets, stewards ordered that DAM FLASH remain on course for 2 hours following the event and a further swab sample was taken.

Near the 700 metres BLAZE TO FORTUNE (App. Darren Evans) shifted out, and when CUMANI (N. Day) raced tight to its outside, was obliged to shift in and steady from the heels of FERMENT (App. N.
