On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Orman, rider of the equal 4th placegetter AMBER JEWEL, against BIZARRE ROCK  being declare equal 4th on the grounds of interference rounding the home turn. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards patrol video, it was established that rounding the home turn, AMBER JEWEL had been positioned outside the heels of CROWN OF DREAMS, which was then bumped and forced wider on the track when BIZARRE ROCK shifted out in an attempt to secure clear running.  Stewards were satisfied in this incident AMBER JEWELL had suffered sufficient interference to warrant a reversal of placings given that the horses involved  had dead-heated for 4th and therefore upheld the objection and the  Judge’s placings amended to read:  No. 1 – Ashgrovian – 1st      No. 9 – Final Over – 2nd     No. 6 – Fine Fergus – 3rd   No. 7 – Amber Jewel.  Subsequently, apprentice M. Murphy, rider of BIZARRE ROCK, was reprimanded for this incident.

WINDY SANDS – Forced wider near the 850m and raced 3 wide without cover. Apprentice A. Spinks, rider of WINDER SANDS,  pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that after being positioned 3 wide near the 700m he did place undue pressure  to the  runner to the inside,  SOL WITNESS, resulting in both horses  being buffeted for some distance approaching the 500m and ultimately causing  SOL WITNESS to be taken in behind the leader PERFORATION and causing MISS KINDILAN, which had improved to the inside at that stage, to be checked when tightened for room.  Apprentice Spinks was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days, to commence at midnight, 15 January and to expire at midnight, 26 January.  Laid in under pressure in the home straight, causing apprentice Spinks to stop riding and straighten near the 50m.

BRUMBY JACK – Steadied near 500m.

MISS KINDILAN – Checked near the 500m.
