Race 1: CALOUNDRA CUP 1ST JULY 2017 MAIDEN H’CAP – 1800M

PRIMAL TOUCH – Steadied from heels after passing the 600m. Apprentice T. Brooker reported that she had intended to position her mount closer to the lead, however the horse did not muster early speed and when the pace was only steady in the middle stages, this did not suit her mount, and given that it was carrying 58kg on a heavy track the horse was unable to sprint when asked for an effort. She indicated that the horse would appreciate a firmer racing surface.

SALUTE THE PRINCE – M. Cahill reported that his mount failed to handle the rain-affected conditions.

DEE CEE DELIGHTS – Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to assume the lead after passing the 1200m.

TAKE A CHANCE – Significantly slow to begin.

Race 2: XXXX CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed when OH BOY required farrier attention to have the off fore plate reattached.

BEER ‘N’ BARMAID – Slow to begin.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to HEAVY 8.

Race 3: COASTLINE BMW QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

BERAHT – Raced wide without cover.

MAGIC LAD – Overraced in the early stages and had to be steadied from heels near the 900m.

MAGICIAN’S SECRET – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Overraced in the early stages and had to be steadied from heels near the 900m.

SNOOPER – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

HIMALAYAN SALT – M. Cahill reported that his mount was not entirely comfortable in the rain-affected conditions and did not finish the race off as anticipated after being slightly inconvenienced by another runner near the 300m.

Race 4: YALUMBA MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

COME BY CHANCE – Overraced when the pace slackened approaching the 900m and had to be checked to avoid heels. M. Hellyer reported that the horse hung out rounding the home turn.

COLLEGIATE – Raced wide without cover.

ERNIE’S EGO – Raced greenly throughout.

KISS ME CLANG – J. Morris reported that the horse was under pressure from the 700m and he was forced to apply the whip before the home turn and the horse failed to respond. He added that despite this, from approaching the 200m the horse did improve into the race and was doing its best work over the concluding stages. He indicated that the horse would appreciate racing over more ground when not obliged to be pressured early in the event.

SONADOR ANGEL – Overraced when the pace slackened approaching the 900m and had to be checked to avoid heels.

ASHIKO – M. Cahill was reminded to fully test his mounts to the end of the race.

Race 5: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1000M

MAKE A RULER – Raced wide without cover.

AD FINEM – G. Colless reported that after travelling well and securing clear running at the top of the straight his mount did not respond as anticipated. He indicated that in his opinion the horse may not have handled today’s racing surface.

BROCSON – Slow to begin. Lost the off fore plate in running.

CAPTAIN DODGE – Raced wide without cover.

CHINA PLATE – R. Plumb reported that his mount travelled well until the 600m, however proved very disappointing thereafter.

Race 7: WWW.SCTC.COM.AU – CLASS 4 H’CAP – 1400M

CHARLES THE THIRD – Slow to begin.

PERFORATION – As L. Tarrant was ill, trainer M. Mair made an application to have apprentice C. Bayliss replace him as rider of the horse. After considering the application, given the circumstances, stewards permitted L. Tarrant to be replaced by apprentice Bayliss.
