SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Doomben Saturday 10 June 2017 – Race 8 UBET Stradbroke H’cap:Jockey L. Innes, rider of COUNTERATTACK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to shift out near the 300m when not clear of KAEPERNICK, resulting in KAEPERNICK being taken out towards the heels of ULMANN and having to be checked. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Innes’s guilty plea and issued a 12-day suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday, 25 June, following the expiration of a suspension incurred in New Zealand, and expire at midnight on Friday 7 July 2017.

Race 1: BUNDABERG RUM MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M

IN AKITA – Slow to begin.

BIA TYCHE – Raced wide throughout and was steadied from heels near the 500m.

SNIP OF ROYALTY – Apprentice J. Woodhouse was fined $200 for failing to claim any of his allowance. Raced wide without cover. Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 2: XXXX GOLD MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M

SILVER FOX – Jumped out at the start and hampered another runner. Apprentice T. Brooker reported that her mount hung out at various stages of the event and indicated that after discussions with the trainer, he may look to remove the pacifiers and tongue tie from the horse’s gear.

RUN JACK RUN – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.

SNOOZE YA LOSE – Slow to begin.

FREEZE ‘N’ TEASE – Raced three wide without cover.

ALASTRIONA – J. Orman reported that his mount travelled well, however when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. He added that the horse may not have appreciated the rain-affected conditions today.

Race 3: BELLVISTA TAVERN CLASS 3 PLATE – 1000M

CHOPHOUSE TEARS – The veterinary surgeon reported that the horse had moderate heat stress post-race.

BELLA SASH – Shifted out after passing the 400m to secure clear running and made heavy contact with another runner.

VINTAGE BEAUTY – Lost the off hind plate in running. T. Harrison reported that it had been her intention to ride in a forward position, however after being slow to begin, her mount was positioned in the second half of the field.

GATLINBURG – Raced three wide without cover. Bumped by another runner shortly after entering the home straight and then laid in from that point onwards.

Race 4: REDBANK MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400M

SURGE BLANCO – When questioned, T. Harrison indicated that the horse had to work harder in the early stages to obtain the lead than she had anticipated, given that the horse was stepping up over 1400m and did not travel comfortably at any stage of the event. She indicated that the horse, when approaching the home turn, became awkward in its action and shifted out on a number of occasions, bumping with the runner to its outside. She added that she shifted the horse wider in the home straight as she felt the going on the fence was somewhat damaged. She stated that after shifting out and making contact with the horse on the outside, SURGE BLANCO continued to lay out from approaching the 300m and did not respond to her riding in the home straight. She also felt that the horse was not comfortable in the rain-affected conditions and may have been affected by the 7-day back-up from its most recent start. Trainer R. Wilson agreed with jockey Harrison’s comments and indicated, however, that he would have the horse scoped and have his own veterinary surgeon inspect the horse tomorrow morning and report the findings to stewards. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than that the horse had an elevated high heart rate. Stewards advised Mr Wilson that they would make a determination as to whether any action would be taken against the horse after he reports to them his veterinary surgeon’s findings in the coming days. A swab sample was taken from the horse.

SILENT FLYER – N. Thomas reported that his mount hung out throughout.

KASCATA – Inconvenienced by another runner passing the 400m.

TRUST ISSUES – Slow to begin.

ONE MAN GRAND – Slow to begin.

Race 5: BRIGHTWATER HOTEL BENCHMARK 75 H'CAP – 1800M

WALK TO THE BAR – Raced wide in the early stages before improving to the lead passing the 1300m. N. Thomas reported that his mount pulled hard throughout the event.

SKYTASTIC – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and inconvenienced when placed in restricted room near the 350m.

Race 6: GIVE ME 5 FOR KIDS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

BROKEN FINGER – Became very awkward when approaching the 600m, shifted in, made contact with the running rail and lost ground. Apprentice T. Brooker reported that after this point of the race the horse did not travel comfortably until entering the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

Race 7: PARKLANDS TAVERN CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M

DONTPOKETHETIGER – Overraced when the pace was only steady in the early stages. Forced wider near the 850m and raced three wide without cover from that point onwards. Stewards spoke with trainer P. Rudkin regarding the horse’s performance. He indicated that when the horse overraced in the early stages he would have preferred jockey Fradd to allow the horse to stride forward to the lead as the horse has raced successfully when being permitted to lead when racing in New Zealand. He believed that being forced to race three wide and carrying 60kg had a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

FIT FOR PURPOSE – Overraced when the pace was only steady in the early stages before being allowed to stride forward and assume the lead passing the 1000m.

SAVE THE DATE – Fractious in the barriers and reared high prior to the start. On returning to the enclosure it was noted that the horse had blood in the offside nostril, and upon veterinary inspection was found to have a laceration in that nostril.

SENSEOFWONDER – Slow to begin.

Race 8: CELLARBRATIONS QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 1600M

CHIEF JOSEPH – Taken in on to another runner near the 1200m and had to be steadied. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PARK CHINOIS – Raced wide in the early stages.

BRICKHALL – Raced wide from the 700m.

SINISTER PRINCESS – Forced in and made contact with the running rail near the 1200m. G. Colless, the rider of PARK CHINOIS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at that point, in an attempt to secure a position behind LUCY LE ROC, he directed his mount in when not sufficiently clear of CHIEF JOSEPH, resulting in that gelding being steadied and taken in on to the rightful running SINISTER PRINCESS. G. Colless’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 10 days, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 25 June, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 5 July 2017. L. Tarrant reported that in his opinion his mount failed to handle today’s track conditions.

Race 9: THE LAKEHOUSE SUNSHINE COAST CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1600M

The start of this race was delayed when the near fore plate on ALCAZAR required refitting.

PRINCE OF TIE – Apprentice A. Fancourt reported that her mount laid out under pressure in the home straight.

MOGUL – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.

SEND US A SIGN – Apprentice T. Brooker reported that her mount hung out throughout.
