Race 1: McDonalds Gracemere, Rockhampton QTIS 3yo H’cap – 1200m

CRAIGLEA ALTISE – Trainer K. Johnston was fined the sum of $100 for failing to enact an appropriate gear change.

CRAIGLEA THUNDER – Began awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with another runner. Steadied near the 800m.

DAZZA’S REWARD – Slow to begin and bumped heavily. Steadied near the 800m.

Race 2: XXXX Gold Maiden H’cap – 1200m

MORE VALUE – Slow to begin. Tightened for room near the 600m.

PEGUNNY KID – Reared at the start and lost ground.

ARGENTINA LAD – When the pace steadied near the 700m shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with ALADEAN, which in turn shifted out and made contact with MISTY MONTANA, which shifted out and made heavy contact with THE CLANG AFFAIR, causing that horse to become unbalanced. J. Stephens, rider of ARGENTINA LAD, was advised to exercise more care.

ALADEAN – Bumped heavily near the 700m and shifted out and bumped.

MISTY MONTANA – Bumped near the 700m and shifted out and made heavy contact with another runner.

THE CLANG AFFAIR – Bumped heavily and became unbalanced near the 700m. Raced wide throughout the event.

MISS RICH – Inclined to shift in under pressure over the concluding stages.

AMAZZLER – Raced wide throughout the event.


Race 3: Callaghan Park Functions & Events Centre Benchmark 60 H’cap – 1800m

VIRTUITY – Held up and unable to improve when entering the home straight and until the 200m.

GO AS YOU PLEASE – Tightened for room at the start. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey J. Stephens stated that after being fractious in the barriers and then being slow to begin, the gelding failed to muster any early speed and settled further back then he would have liked and as a result was reluctant to race to the inside of other runners. He also added that, in his opinion, the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer Mr R. West expressed his disappointment in the performance, however was not surprised given the gelding’s inconsistent form. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

MURRAMARANG - Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

GRAND HOTEL - Restrained near the 1600m when over-racing.


Race 4: Spring Carnival 2015 Packages Available Now Benchmark 70 H’cap – 1400m

POINT LEO - Slow to begin.

INKJET SPRINTER - Shifted out and away from another runner near the 100m and then shifted in and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at heels. A short distance later again had to be steadied over the concluding stages when placed in restricted room between runners.

ZARADA ANGEL - Raced 3 deep without cover for the majority of the event.



VANCOUVER GOLD - Raced 4 deep without cover for the majority of the race.

DARK ANGEL - Had difficulty obtaining clear running entering the home straight and until approaching the 150m.

ROCK OF FREEDOM – Lost its Off Hind plate in running. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, jockey A. Butler explained that the gelding raced flat today and may not have appreciated the firm surface. Trainer R. Vale stated the gelding had only previously backed up within a week once in its racing career and had also proved disappointing on that occasion. He advised stewards that it would be his intention to space the gelding’s runs in future. Stewards noted the comments. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 5: Hahn 3.5 Open H’cap – 1100m

STORMWOOD - Slow to begin. Raced wide during the early stages.

PRIMED FOR DESTINY - Slow to begin and then was bumped by another runner.

ISA TALA - Approaching the 800m, had to be steadied and lost ground when tightened for room between CASINO BENJO, which shifted out, and HOTEL PARADISO, which shifted in. Jockey S. Sheargold, rider of HOTEL PARADISO, was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances when shifting ground.

PRINCE MONASHEE - Lost its Off Fore plate in running.


Race 6: 2015 Albert Court Golf Cay – Friday 9 Oct/$60pp
Benchmark 65 H’cap – 1000m

ABOVE US - Connections advised that they would instruct the rider to take up a position at the rear of the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.

RODRIGEUZ - Slow to begin.

ELJAY ATOM - Began awkwardly and made contact with LET IT SNOW. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 200m.

LET IT SNOW – Bumped at the start. Hung out rounding the first turn near the 700m.

MT ZIGGARO – Steadied upon entering the home straight. Rider R. Payne stated her mount was inclined to hang out throughout the event, and also may not have appreciated the firm surface.

TRACONI - Stewards afforded rider N. Vuille the opportunity to comment on the disappointing performance. She stated it was her intention to take up a leading position however the mare failed to master sufficient early speed and then as a result over-raced and also hung out rounding the first turn. She added when placed under pressure in the home straight proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality at the time of examination.


Race 7: Tooheys New Class 1 H’cap – 1200m

VIKING GOOD THING - Slow to begin. Bled during the race, as this was the second occasion on which it had bled, connections were advised that the gelding will now incur a lifetime bar from racing.

INTRUDING - Slow to begin.

GLACIER EXPRESS - Checked and lost ground shortly after the start. A. Lawrence, rider of SOLO SOPRANO, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that shortly after the start whilst riding along he shifted in when insufficiently clear of GLACIER EXPRESS, which had to be checked. A. Lawrence was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight 19 September and to expire at midnight 2 October.

HOSTILE OWNERS - Near the 700m had to be steadied after improving on to heels. Raced wide throughout the event. Rider J. Stanley reported to stewards that whilst he was disappointed in the performance he felt the gelding would take benefit from the run and would improve with the addition of blinkers and a step up over further distances. Trainer M. Attard indicated to stewards he would consider adding blinkers for the gelding’s next start.

KERNEL - Race wide throughout the event.

LUCIFER’S ANGEL - Stewards asked rider A. Butler to comment on the below-market performance. He stated that after beginning awkwardly the mare put in a few awkward strides and as a result settled further back than he had anticipated. He added that the mare was only having its second start in a race and that was after having nearly a year off from racing. He further stated that the mare would take fitness and racing experience for the run. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
