  4. Ipswich Turf Club Redevelopment
Completed

The Ipswich Turf Club redevelopment was completed between October 2017 and September 2020, costing approximately $26.4 million and funded by the Racing Infrastructure Fund.

The project entailed replacing old, dilapidated existing jockeys facilities with a new two-storey building, providing new state-of-the-art facilities for jockeys and stewards on the ground floor.

The project also delivered new hospitality facilities on the upper floor, supporting the Club’s strategic vision to diversify their business and revenue to hold private and corporate functions and events to enable the Club to remain economically sustainable and not solely reliant on racing revenue.

The project also involved building new tie-up stalls, new car parking facilities, widening works to the adjoining main access road, T.L. Cooney Avenue, and extensive upgrade works to the course proper, including new drainage and irrigation.

  • The project formed part of Racing Queensland’s approved Infrastructure Plan and was considered a key Priority Infrastructure Project under the Racing Infrastructure Fund.

  • The redevelopment was required to support the Club’s annual ‘Ipswich Cup’ event- typically the largest patron attended event in Queensland and which the Club generates a majority of their annual revenue.

  • In addition to weekly race meetings, the new facilities are now used for weddings, corporate events and functions as well as other recreational events such as ‘pop-up’ markets, vintage car rallies etc.

  • Further masterplanning of the site, notably at the corner of Brisbane Road and T.L. Cooney Avenue is now underway.

Project Update

The new facilities continue to be successfully used and operated by the Ipswich Turf Club.

The course proper is stated to be one of the, if not the best, racing surfaces in South East Queensland according to some Jockeys.
