Feature race winner Catcha Lefty has returned home a winner.

The former Queensland Derby winner has been campaigning in Sydney over the past month and scored a deserved victory at TABCORP Park, Menangle on Saturday night.

Prepared by Cristina Monte and Charlie Cini, the Village Jasper gelding scored in a personal best time of 1:52.0 easily defeating Imthevillagestar and Im Cool Harry in the $20,400 Thirlmere Retail Nursery Pace.

Ace reinsman Luke McCarthy took the winning drive.

During his five Sydney starts, Catcha Lefty scored once while being no further back than fourth which left connections thrilled.

“It was a very good campaign and Casper (Catcha Lefty) performed very well, it was great to see him get that victory on the weekend before heading home.” Cini said.

Catcha Lefty takes his record to 22 victories plus 17 minor placings from 51 lifetime starts while his earnings now exceed $250,000.

The husband and wife team arrived back at their Jacobs Well base today (Monday).

Other members of their team that competed in Sydney were Bundaburra (placed from four starts) and two-year-old Left A Terror (twice placed from three starts).

“All horses performed well overall and with a bit more luck, we could’ve picked up a few more races but that’s the way it goes. We’ll be heading back for another campaign soon enough.

“We probably could’ve stayed a little longer but we’ve got other horses due back in work plus there’s plenty of work at home to be done.

“With the winter carnival looming, we might look at some events for Casper but there’s nothing set in stone just yet.”

Meanwhile, the highly respected couple was thrilled to hear that former pupil Firebby scored in North American debut at the Meadowlands across the weekend.

The Courage Under Fire mare scored in a time of 1:52.0.

Firebby won 15 races when prepared by the Monte/Cini combination.
