Michael Hickmott Bloodstock and Magic Millions have launched an online auction giving punters the chance to secure an ongoing 5% share in 2018 UBET Birdsville Cup hopeful, Unbreakable.

All proceeds from the online auction, which begins today and closes on Thursday, August 30 at 4pm, will be donated to the Queensland Country Women’s Association Drought Appeal.

This generous offer made by Hickmott, comes after Racing Queensland announced Birdsville had been granted full TAB status, meaning live nationwide television coverage for the first time on Sky Racing.

Racing Queensland also announced it will donate 50% of its wagering revenue collected on the two-day carnival to the drought relief fund.

Hickmott said when he heard about the effort he was eager to get on board.

“I thought we had the right horse to go there this year, and when I saw that SKY were broadcasting the meeting and RQ was donating wagering revenue I thought we would do our part,” he said.

Those interested in securing a share are encouraged to email their bid to birdsville@magicmillions.com.au. Magic Millions will provide punters with live bidding updates via Twitter (@mmsnippets) and Facebook, with the winning bidder to be announced on Thursday evening.

Managing Director of Magic Millions Barry Bowditch said: “Magic Millions is pleased to join with Racing Queensland for this great initiative around one of the country’s most iconic race meetings.”

“All funds raised are going to a great cause and we'll be hoping Unbreakable can follow on from his last start third in the Magic Millions Handicap on Darwin Cup Day with a great run this Saturday.”

Racing Queensland General Manager of Racing (Thoroughbred) Simon Stout said the auction was another example of the racing industry’s willingness to lend a hand to those in need.

“This offer of a five per cent share in a live Birdsville Cup chance shows fantastic support for Racing Queensland’s effort to raise much-needed funds for our friends and colleagues in rural and regional Queensland,” he said.

“The whole industry across the state has offered to help, with clubs getting behind the campaign, participants offering to donate their riding, driving or winning fees, and some event organising charity events of their own.”
