Beaudesert trainer Di Murphy is hopeful of breaking new ground with another country feature win in Cairns and only her second Saturday metropolitan success at Doomben.

Rockhampton Newmarket winner Peacock is chasing more country spoils in the $50,000 Newmarket Handicap at Cannon Park in Cairns while Glen Ord lines up for Murphy in the UBET Benchmark 75 Handicap (2200m) at Doomben.

Murphy is in her seventh season as a trainer after learning the ropes working for New Zealand trainers Roger James, Gary Stewart and Kaye Tinsley.

“I also had two stints, one for six months and another for a year, riding work in Japan,” Murphy said.

“This is all new to me having a good chance in a Saturday city race at Doomben and one in the Cairns Newmarket.

“My only Saturday city winner was with Mishani Phoenix who won at Doomben in December.”

Murphy is not concerned with Peacock backing-up a week after failing behind Grey Missile in the $100,000 Cleveland Bay Handicap in Townsville last start.

The six-year-old previously claimed the Newmarket Handicap at Mackay on July 6 for jockey Justin Stanley.

Peacock was an $80,000 buy at a Magic Millions tried horse sale after winning at Sandown in May.

“He’ll back-up no problem,” declared Murphy.

“He went forward in the Cleveland Bay hoping to lead and get to the fence but the race was run a bit upside down.

“Justin (Stanley) thought he was still going to be in the finish at the top of the straight but he just weakened late.”

Fellow Beaudesert trainer Laurie Richardson is looking after Peacock on his north Queensland excursion while Murphy will be at Doomben saddling Glen Ord.

Glen Ord has been knocking on the door for another win following three placings from his past four starts including his last start third to Brilliant Jet in a Class Six at Grafton on July 11.

“He’s a good chance to give me my second Saturday winner in town,” Murphy said.

“The form stacked around him is very good with Brilliant Jet winning again at Doomben last week.

“I couldn’t be happier with him and he’s brightened up nicely for this race.”

Glen Ord is only lightly raced for a six-year-old with four wins from 25 starts.

“He wasn’t broken in until he was a three-year-old so we’ll just go through the grades with him at this stage,” she said.

“If he can win tomorrow we’ll then think about aiming a little higher.”
