Trainer Tony Gollan believes the Brisbane Handicap is an open race outside of favourite Crack Me Up and is more confident of his chances in the Just Now Quality at Doomben on Saturday.

The two Listed features and the second day of the Origin Jockey Challenge highlight the Doomben meeting.

Gollan is chasing his second Brisbane Handicap with Frespanol and Brazen Moss while Sheiswhatsheis, Notonyourlife and Of The Day tackle the Just Now Quality.

“I think the Brisbane Handicap is an open race if you take out the favourite, Crack Me Up,” Gollan said.

“Crack Me Up was very dominant the way he won the Recognition and I think my two will have their work cut out against him but they deserve their chance.

“Both of them will be suited by 1600 metres but they’ve had no luck with the barriers.”

Frespanol, a Michael Rodd mount, drew barrier 14 and is coming off a last start sixth to Crack Me Up in the Listed Recognition Stakes at Doomben while Brazen Moss drew gate 11 and will have Jim Byrne aboard in his second appearance this campaign.

Gollan won the Listed Brisbane Handicap two years ago with Traveston Girl.

Gollan believes his three runners in the Just Now Quality all have undeniable chances but was reluctant to separate the trio.

“There’s not a lot between them and all three have improved a lot condition-wise and shouldn’t be far away at the finish,” he said.

“Notonyourlife was just brilliant the way she won first-up while Sheiswhatsheis is getting out to a more suitable distance for her over 1350 metres.

“Of The Day looked the winner at the 200 metres in her race last start before her condition gave out.

“She’s a very good mare coming off spring campaign when it was hard to gauge how she was going.”

Notonyourlife is chasing successive Stakes wins after her eye-catching win in the Listed UBET Classic (1200m) at Doomben last month.

Brad Stewart rode the six-year-old in the UBET Classic and has retained the ride for the Just Now Quality.

Sheiswhatsheis also will be ridden by her last start rider Matt McGillivray after fading to finish fifth to Notonyourlife in the UBET Classic.

Adelaide’s Jamie Kah will ride Of The Day.
