Racing Queensland advises stakeholders of changes to Class 5 grading to take immediate effect from 5 December 2018.

Following recent elevation to TAB status, Racing Queensland conducted a review of Class 5 grading and presented the findings to the Greyhound Racing Advisory Panel which supported the proposed amendments.

The Panel recommended that it was necessary to implement the changes prior to the first TAB meeting on Sunday 9 December 2018.

A summary of the changes are as follows:

  1. Greyhounds that haven’t started at Capalaba will only be upgraded if they have won a Class 1 race.
  2. Greyhounds will be upgraded to 4th grade if they have won four Class 1 races, regardless of whether or not they have established a grade at Capalaba.

The complete grading rules for Capalaba are as follows:

  • Greyhounds having their first start on a Class 5 track will be upgraded to 4th Grade if they have won (6-10) races on Class 1, 2, or 3 tracks, provided they have won at least one Class 1 race.
  • Greyhounds having their first start on a Class 5 track will be upgraded to 3rd Grade if they have won 11 or more races on Class 1, 2, or 3 tracks, provided they have won at least one Class 1 race.
  • Subject to “Upgrading Short Course Category”, a greyhound having established a grade for a Class 5 track shall not thereafter be penalised for a win on any other Class of track.

Upgrading Short Course Category:

  • any greyhound that has won a total of 4 or more races on a Class 1 track in the sprint distance category, will be elevated to 4th grade when next nominated on class 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 tracks in the short course distance category.

Racing Queensland will also introduce permanent changes to Class 4 and Class 5 grading procedures to only allow one 4th grade win. This change was supported by the Panel following a successful trial on Non-TAB tracks since August 2017.

The complete Grading Policy documentation can be found at the following link.

Stakeholders should be aware that these changes will be manually graded until system changes can be built into Ozchase. As a result of this, stakeholders nominating online may notice that the system has incorrectly graded their greyhound. This will be rectified by the graders after nominations close.
