Trainer Tony Gollan was full of praise for trainer Mick Kent after former Victorian Coldstone proved too good in the Listed Brisbane Handicap (1600m) at Doomben.

Kent and the gelding's owners decided to leave the horse in the care of Gollan following a winter carnival campaign.

They were rewarded handsomely when jockey Matthew McGillivray handed up the early lead with Kay Kay Boy and Prioritse locked in an epic speed battle.

Coldstone secured the run of the race before pouncing on the leaders to record a dominant win over Sold For Song and Ruling Dynasty.

"I really want to thank Mick Kent and the owners for leaving him here with me," Gollan said.

It was the former French galloper's first win since winning an Open Handicap at Flemington on February 17.

He raced consistently without winning at Group level during the Winter Carnival, before putting the writing on the wall for today's win with a third in the Recognition Stakes.

"Matt (McGillivray) rode him great and, depending on the weights, will be riding him again in the Bernborough."
