Clifton school teacher Charlotte White believes talented sprinter Spurcraft can get his ticket into next month’s $1 million Magic Millions Snippets by winning the Listed Falvelon Quality at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Spurcraft is not Magic Millions eligible but the winner of the Falvelon Quality wins a wildcard entry into the Magic Millions Snippets (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 11.

Spurcraft, who drew perfectly in gate three, has always shown above average ability but his career has been plagued with breathing problems.

He proved he was one of the State’s fastest sprinters by trouncing his opposition in the Listed Bribie Handicap (1050m) at Doomben when resuming earlier this month.

It was the six-year-old’s first start since finishing second to Tycoon Ace in the Bat Out Of Hell (900m) at the Gold Coast in May and his first since undergoing throat surgery to correct his breathing disorder.

White has been deputy principal at Clifton High School on Queensland’s Darling Downs for ten years and is tempted to test Spurcraft in Sydney.

“Our first aim is to be positive and we’re hoping he can win on Saturday and get into the Magic Millions Snippets,” White said.

“He pulled up well after the Bribie and I’m sure he’ll run a strong 1200 metres.

“This is a much harder than the Bribie and my biggest concern is something may try to take him on leaving him vulnerable for the backmarkers.”

Spurcraft has never missed a place in his 14-start career which has produced nine wins and five placings with prizemoney exceeding $306,000.

Spurcraft faces his biggest test of his career in the 1200-metre feature against several well performed sprinters including Badajoz, who was runner-up in the Bribie Handicap and is one of three Godolphin runners in the care of Sydney’s James Cummings.

“Badajoz ran well against us last time and looks one of the dangers again even though he’s yet to win over 1200 metres,” White said.

White was uncertain of Spurcraft’s next start but hasn’t ruled out a trip interstate.

“You’ve got to acknowledge the form of the southern horses and it’s a very hard race,” White said.

“If he doesn’t win, I’ve got a few options to think about but there’s not many suitable races around for him here at the moment.”
