RACE TWO

COLT THIRTY ONE (8) went within a half-head of securing the Qld Derby when he was nabbed on the line after doing all the work in the run in a brave effort. He has no favours from this gate, but given the chance to get away from the pegs he should simply be too good.

ALPHA STYX (1) goes in search of a hat-trick and from the gate will get every chance to spring the upset. He pressed on hard to find the front last start from gate 4 and once in control held on to score over this trip. He will fight to the wire.

KURAHAUPO GAMBLER (9) can look for the pocket trail if the fav doesn’t want to risk the pocket and the pegs would be a nice place to be in this race. He chased ALPHA STYX last start and can claim a minor.

ONE WISE MAN (6) was returning from a spell last start when he was too far back in the pack when the closing panel from the front was too slick. Fitter from that he can chime into the exotic numbers.

SELECTIONS: COLT THIRTY ONE (8), ALPHA STYX (1), KURAHAUPO GAMBLER (9), ONE WISE MAN (6)
SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 8 / 1 / 2-6-9

RACE THREE

LITTLE CHANGE (1) was buried away on the pegs last start and there was plenty to like about the way he found the line. That followed a Redcliffe run where he was just too far back in the pack from the 2nd line. With the improved gate and striking an open contest, he can get the job done.

ONE MANS PASS (10) made a mess of the start last time and finds himself banished from the main draw. His 4 previous starts had all been from the 2nd line so he has become accustomed to the 2nd line. With the right run in transit he can be sharper this time.

THUNDER MAC (9) should find this a shade easier than what he has been meeting in recent starts. Not suited when snagged back to the rear from gate 7 last start, he can be a big improver in this.

HELL BENT (3) pressed on to the front here 2 starts back and tried to dictate when 3rd behind TOMEARA. His chances rest on finding the front and if he can do that and control the tempo, he will be right in the fight.

SELECTIONS: LITTLE CHANGE (1), ONE MANS PASS (10), THUNDER MAC (9), HELL BENT (3)
SUGGESTED BET: LITTLE CHANGE (1) to win

RACE FOUR

SCORCHED (3)
didn’t get the cleanest run in transit last start off the 30m tape when chasing SOUTHERN ALPS. The start prior he was snagged back from gate 6 under mobile conditions and was hitting the line nicely in the closing stages behind the flying SPUD. From the front he gets his chance.

MATATOKI (6) has been charging home at both AP appearances with the latest a stylish effort when wide off the track and closing strongly behind SOUTHERN ALPS. Moving to the front line is a big plus here and with a safe beginning can be much closer in transit which is a big plus.

SPRINGBANK EDEN (13) will be tightened from his latest run when he hit the line strongly to claim the silver after coming form a 20m mark. That was his 1st run back from a let-up and this is well within reach.

IVANOV (4) is normally a brilliant beginner and from this position can look to fly the tapes and take control. A good winner here 5 starts back when finding the front, he will give this a shake if able to dictate.

SELECTIONS: SCORCHED (3), MATATOKI (6), SPRINGBANK EDEN (13), IVANOV (4)
SUGGESTED BET: SCORCHED (3) to win

RACE FIVE

MONTANA FALCON (5) will be much better suited in this grade of claiming race following his run on Sat which was a nice effort from back in the pack behind MAKO BANNER. He attacked the line strongly in that event and with blazing early speed he can look to get to the pegs and go all the way.

MAX RICHTER (4) made up a stack of ground here 2 starts back from gate 12 to be 6m from MONTANA FALCON in ta claiming final. He didn’t see space last start and with an improved gate he can be much closer and ready to strike.

DEVIL DODGER (8) will need a slice of luck from the gate but he has been much better of late and with the right trip has place claims. He closed out nicely behind CHANTREY last start and will be working home here.

YANKEE STRUTTER (2) can fire off the gate and from here can look to fire the 1st shot. Back to claiming company last start he had the right trip but just couldn’t go when needed and is an exotic hope here.

SELECTIONS: MONTANA FALCON (5), MAX RICHTER (4), DEVIL DODGER (8), YANKEE STRUTTER (2)
SUGGESTED BET: MONTANA FALCON (5) to win

RACE SIX

TOM ME GUN (2)
brutalised his opponents at his 1st AP appearance 2 starts back in a power running display in front from gate 5 and running his opponents off their feet. His follow up performance was a solid effort from the 2nd row over the mile. He can go to the front here and blow them away again.

PACIFIC DRUMS (5) will find this easier than his Qld debut when given a shot in the Derby. Looking for luck after landing a tricky 2nd line gate, the run had merit. Coming into the Derby with successive Penrith wins if able to find early position he can feature in this.

UNCLE PETER (9) was a strong winner from gate 6 here 2 runs back when pressing on to the breeze and packing too many guns to the line. He worked too hard when 3 wide behind CODE BAILEY on Sat and is better suited here.

GRINVIL (8) worked home wide off the track to score in good style on Sat night when overcoming a 2nd line gate. She will need a slice of luck from this alley as she looks to be buried in the run but can be flashing late.

SELECTIONS: TOM ME GUN (2), PACIFIC DRUMS (5), UNCLE PETER (9), GRINVIL (8)
SUGGESTED BET: TOM ME GUN (2) to win

RACE SEVEN

NONE BETTOR (4) was a stylish winner on Sat night when sent to the breeze from the 2nd line he was just too strong in scoring a nice win. He is in terrific touch this season and back to the front line can look to put his stamp on this.

SOHO SHANGHAI (1) has been freshened since his last appearance when down the line in a qualifier behind TYGAR. He landed a 2nd division qualifier 4 starts back when leading all the way and returning to the main draw after 2 runs out can be in the fight.

CELTIC CRUZA (8) held on for the bronze in a 2nd division qualifier here on Sat night when finishing 9m from NONE BETTOR. He looks set to get a very similar run again and can be chiming into the place money once again.

PARISIAN ROCKSTAR (3) found the front from gate 2 here 3 starts back and setting a good clip in front was only grabbed right on the wire. His past 2 have been from tough gates and he can be sharper in this.

SELECTIONS: NONE BETTOR (4), SOHO SHANGHAI (1), CELTIC CRUZA (8), PARISIAN ROCKSTAR (3)
SUGGESTED BET: NONE BETTOR (4) to win

RACE EIGHT

BRING ON LEFTY (1)
will take further benefit from his latest start when 2nd up from a break. Finding running line cover from gate 3 it was an improved effort to finish 8m from the winner BULL MARKET. With the options available he can look for the cosy run and take the closing shot.

The MAGICNRACING (2) that leads and the one that chases are 2 completely different horses and from the gate we should get to see the leading version here. 3 starts back we saw the front-running version that was setting a good tempo and was only grabbed in the latter stages. He will give this a shake.

ALWAYS MY MATE (5) was up against it last start when trying to make closing ground when the closing panel was in sub 27 from the front. He struck trouble the start prior and if the tempo is strong he is a closing hope here.

ZARAS DELIGHT (9) returns after a let-up following a head-scratcher last start. Always a consistent performer, she was very plain last time. Back to her best she can feature in this type of contest.

SELECTIONS: BRING ON LEFTY (1), MAGICNRACING (2), ALWAYS MY MATE (5), ZARAS DELIGHT (9)
SUGGESTED BET:

RACE NINE

RED CHARMER (6)
has no favours from the gate but should be able to earn some travelling money as she prepares for a Breeders Crown assault. Luckless in the NSW Breeders Challenge Final 3 starts back she then arrived to score the South East Oaks. Her Qld Oaks run had merit and she can arrive in time for this.

LILAC FLASH (5) was a nice winner here 2 starts back when doing his share of early work before securing cover. Covered in the run when he needed to be in open space last start, he was doing his best work when the race was already gone behind TOM ME GUN. He won’t be far away.

ARCACHON (2) put the writing on the wall 2 starts back when getting within a half-neck of the winner. Too strong last week, this is another step up but she still has place hopes.

MAMMALS MAGIC (8) was a nice winner from gate 5 last start in a slightly easier race than this. That is offset by the cosy trip she should receive here and with the right run can land in the money.

SELECTIONS: RED CHARMER (6), LILAC FLASH (5), ARCACHON (2), MAMMALS MAGIC (8)
SUGGESTED BET: RED CHARMER (6) to win
