Racing Queensland has agreed to increase the standard riding fees paid to jockeys in Queensland to $200 per ride.

Racing Queensland CEO Brendan Parnell thanked Queensland Jockeys Association representative Glen Prentice and all stakeholders for the collaborative way in which the negotiations were carried out.

“We are committed to increasing our returns to participants in a sustainable way. Over the past 14 months we have delivered an extra $15 million in prize money.

“Queensland is financially disadvantaged in comparison to southern states that’s why its important we work closely with government on PoC tax implementation as well as our new commercial plan and the full benefits of the Tabcorp Tatts merger.”

Queensland Jockeys Association representative Glen Prentice welcomed the announcement. “On behalf of all Queensland Jockeys I want to thank Racing Queensland and the Board for acknowledging the vital role we play.

“In particular I want to thank Larry Cassidy and Pam O’Neill for their role in achieving this result. Being a jockey is not an easy job but this fee increase means jockeys are paid fairly for the job they do.”
