Racing Queensland has established a new broodmare register in a further sign of its commitment to enhance standardbred breeding and ownership.
The broodmare register, introduced in time for the 2018 breeding season, is a resource that will allow people who wish to enter the breeding game to contact the owners of empty mares and agree to breeding terms for the listed mares.
Racing Queensland Harness Development Strategy Manager David Brick said the register’s purpose was to promote standardbred breeding and provide an entry level opportunity for those wanting to breed a standardbred for racing purposes.
“Racing Queensland is committed to ensuring a sustainable breeding and harness racing industry into the future,” Mr Brick said.
“The register will appear on the RQ Website and in PACE Magazine, with prospective breeders able to reach out to the broodmare owner to discuss terms of the lease. It is anticipated the register will help sustain Queensland racing stock in the future, and allow more people to experience the thrill of breeding and ownership.”
Broodmare owners interested in making their mare available for others to breed are asked to contact Brett Rail (brail@racingqueensland.com.au) and supply the following details:
- mare name
- image of the mare (if available)
- current broodmare owner and;
- owner contact details.
Any party interested in breeding from the advertised mares will then be able to contact the broodmare owner direct to discuss the terms of any arrangements or lease.
This initiative comes on the back of the recently introduced QBRED cash scheme which will see $200,000 in bonuses paid out to eligible QBRED horses during 2018/19 and the Breed A Trotter promotion supported by Haras des Trotteurs.
