Sydney three-year-old Regulus will look to complete a rare treble at Saturday’s Redcliffe Gold Cup meeting on the Peninsula.

Regulus is currently the $3.70 second-elect in the TAB Redcliffe Derby for Menangle trainer Rickie Alchin and Queensland owners Rosario and Alf La Spina.

Regulus won the 2018 Group 1 Redcliffe Yearling Sale 2YO Final, restricted to horses that pass through the annual sale.

He returned to win the 3YO Series early this month and, if successful in the Derby, will become just the second horse to claim the treble.

This year’s Redcliffe Gold Cup meeting takes place in the Saturday night metropolitan time slot normally reserved for Albion Park meetings.

It will feature the Group 1 Redcliffe Yearling Sale 2YO Final where the Grant Dixon’s unbeaten colt Governor Jujon is the dominant $1.45 TAB favourite.

The meeting also features the TAB Redcliffe Oaks, Redcliffe Trotters Cup and Redcliffe Gold Cup, where Alchin’s Mo Casino has been the subject of a huge betting plunge ($19 - $4.80) in early markets.

On-course patrons will be treated to a free concert after the last by 80s rockers Mental As Anything.

Redcliffe Harness Racing Club president Bernie Ring said his club was thrilled to partner with Racing Queensland to offer a quality card of racing.

“Some of the biggest names in Australian racing will be here to try and take the money but the Queenslanders won’t go down without a fight,” he said.
