Racing Queensland has confirmed this week’s TAB Queensland Greyhound Awards will be postponed as a precaution to the spread of COVID-19.

While the 2020 event was scheduled to be held at Victoria Park this Friday, RQ has made the decision to prioritise the health and safety of its participants – and the industry as a whole - by re-scheduling it to a later date.

Late last month, RQ announced Bago Bye Bye, Dam Slippery and Wise Misty had been short-listed for the TAB Greyhound of the Year, while a raft of other awards were to be presented on the evening including the latest Hall of Fame inductees.

"The impact of COVID-19 extends far and wide and it's essential that we take precautionary measures as an industry," RQ CEO Brendan Parnell said.

"While the TAB Queensland Greyhound Awards serves as the industry’s night of nights, the health and safety of our participants is our priority during these unprecedented times.

“We will endeavour to re-schedule the event following the global pandemic, but in the meantime, our obligation to Queensland greyhound participants is to quarantine the code to the best of our ability and that requires this week’s event to be postponed.”

As a result, RQ will immediately commence contacting attendees including sponsors to alert them to the decision.

Further information in relation to the TAB Queensland Greyhound Awards will be circulated in the coming weeks.
