2019 Origin Greyhound Series Conditions

The Origin Greyhound Series is returning to Albion Park on 6 June 2019.

The format will remain unchanged in 2019 with the following events:

  • $60,000 Origin Sprint 520m ($40k to the winner)
  • $60,000 Origin Distance 710m ($40k to the winner)
  • $30,000 Origin Match Race 520m ($25k to the winner)

Eligibility to be selected in the Origin Greyhound Series will be as per the conditions of the Nationals, with a greyhound required to be domiciled in either QLD or NSW for a period of not less than 76 days out of the 150 days immediately prior to 6 June 2019.

The teams will be selected by a Panel of experts from each state, Chaired by a representative from Racing Queensland and Greyhound Racing New South Wales respectively.

Terry Hill (NSW) and Chris Walker (QLD) have been re-signed as ambassadors for the series. The Mark Hughes Foundation will also continue as a charity partner.

Key Dates:

  • 16 May 2019 - Origin Squads for both QLD and NSW announced.
  • 31 May 2019 – Origin Teams for both QLD and NSW announced.
  • 3 June 2019 – Origin Box Draw conducted.
  • 6 June 2019 – Race night.

Each greyhound that is selected to compete in the 2019 Origin Greyhound Series will be allocated a single ticket for the trainer (or other representative) to attend Game 1 of the State of Origin at Suncorp Stadium on 5 June 2019.

The undercard for 6 June 2019 will feature two support events:

Emerging Origin Stars 520m

  • Total prizemoney $18,375
  • For QLD bred greyhounds whelped on or after 6 March 2017.
  • The order of entry will be from highest prizemoney earners to lowest.
  • Preference will be given to greyhounds that have won a race in the sprint distance category, or had at least one start at the track and distance.

Regional Origin Challenge Final 520m

  • Total prizemoney $18,375
  • For greyhounds that have not won a city class event.
  • QLD heats at Ipswich (520m) on Friday 31 May 2019.
  • NSW heats at Casino (484m) on Friday 31 May 2019.
  • Top four qualifiers plus one reserve from each state to progress to the final.
  • Eligibility to compete for QLD or NSW as per Nationals rules.
