Punter's Guide to Thoroughbred Tracks
CONDAFEW (2) backs up from Thursday where he drew wide of the track and was attacking the line strongly in his usual manner after retreating in the early stages. He comes up with much improved gate, having started closer than gate 4 on just 3 occasions in 36 trips to the triangle. With the right run in transit he can add the victory.
HAVANA MOON (3) was shooting for a hat-trick last start when starting inside the 2nd line over the AP 2138m trip. From the pocket trail he chased home to told on for the silver behind the smart TIZ A SIZZLER. Settling handy from this gate, he looks best placed to throw down the challenge.
HES NOVAK (8) secured the perfect trip in the pocket trail last outing and when the gaps opened, took the closing shot to arrive for the prize. With a similar easy trip on offer, he will be probing.
BEACH GODDESS (7) went to the pegs last start over the 2040m and was searching for space when 4m from the winner COMIGAL. Backing up from Thursday when not far away, she can chime in.
SELECTIONS: CONDAFEW (2), HAVANA MOON (3), HES NOVAK (8), BEACH GODDESS (7)
SUGGESTED BET: CONDAFEW (2) to win
LETTERKENNY BOY (6) heads back to his home track and despite the wide gate should appreciate this contest. Making the closing play a winning one here 3 starts back via the passing lane, he then took on a TrotRods scamper when left chasing. Striking trouble last start, he can bounce back here.
OUR LITTLE DIGGER (5) returns from a 7-month break, put away following a last start 3rd when settling in the trail and finishing 3m from the winner DREAM TO SHARE. That had followed a qualifying win the start prior and given an easy time in a recent trial, he can be charging home.
LIVE ATOM (3) eased back from gate 5 over the 2138m 2 starts back and from a long way back in the pack, was really attacking the line strongly to be 8m from the winner STREET APPEAL. He can fire the 1st shot.
GRIZZLY MONTANA (1) sat in the pocket trail last start but couldn’t go with them when the speed went on when mid-field behind STREET APPEAL. From the ace he is a podium player here.
SELECTIONS: LETTERKENNY BOY (6), OUR LITTLE DIGGER (5), LIVE ATOM (3), GRIZZLY MONTANA (1)
MAFFIOSO GIRL (8) took on the 947m TrotRods here 2 starts back and was in for the fight when finishing a head in arrears of the winner. Setting the tempo last start over the mile, the opening panel in sub 28 left her short-changed at the business end. With even luck, this race is within reach.
IMA REGAL JET (1) was mid-field her eon Wed night after settling in the running line but left flat when the power went on in a slippery 3rd panel. Placed at successive starts prior, he claimed a Marburg victory 4 starts back and with the benefit of the ace gate, can look to issue the challenge.
WHATELEY (4) is in a purple patch, having won 4 of his past 6 starts and lines up here searching for a hat-trick. Wide off the track last start, he was still too strong for them and can feature again here.
CLOUDIN UP (3) held the pocket trail from inside the 2nd line over the AP mile 2 starts back and chased hard to hold 3rd behind CUT FROM ROCK. Backing up from Thursday, he can chime in.
SELECTIONS: MAFFIOSO GIRL (8), IMA REGAL JET (1), WHATELEY (4), CLOUDIN UP (3)
SUGGESTED BET: MAFFIOSO GIRL (8) to win
BIG IN AMERICA (3) settled in the 1 trail here 2 starts back when chasing home to grab 4th behind winner CANNAN in a Young Drivers Race when the closing panels set it up for a leader/behind leader breakaway. Looming strongly to arrive for the prize and break a 14-month winless streak here on Thursday, she can look for the repeat.
WHATA CHALLENGE (1) eased from gate 5 last start over this trip and was making some good metres in the latter stages when 3rd behind the in-form CHUMP CHOP. A winner here 3 starts back when finding the 1x1 trail from gate 2, he will have options available here and can indeed challenge.
UNDERTHEKILT (7) started from this gate 2 runs back and was soon locked away 4 back against the poles. Closing strongly to grab the bronze, the inside gate is appealing and he will be probing late.
MAJOR LUCKY (5) has been in nice touch and backs up from Thursday where he was strong to the line. Hitting the line in nice style to grab the silver over the AP mile 2 starts back, he has claims here.
SELECTIONS: BIG IN AMERICA (3), WHATA CHALLENGE (1), UNDERTHEKILT (7), MAJOR LUCKY (5)
SUGGESTED BET: Exotics 1-3-5-7
NEWMERELLA LADYKAY (5) started from gate 6 here on Thursday but was still able to power home over the top of them to claim a smart win in a new PB rate. That followed a luckless effort when tucked in on the fence from gate 8 and never getting a clean crack at them. Only a neck away here 3 starts back, she can arrive.
ALLSTAR SEA (3) was too far back last start when retreating from gate 5 over the 1780m and with the tempo against him was always facing a task. Hitting the line in nice order the start prior when 8m from the handy 3YO BOMBADIER JUJON, he can settle closer from this gate to ask the questions.
DARBY BRIGHTS (2) was again the runner-up here on Wednesday, beaten up the passing lane as she was grinding it out in the breeze. The bridesmaid in 5 of her past 6 starts, she won’t be far away again.
COBBLER LANE (7) eased to find position from the three-hole last start and was hitting the line in nice order when 3m from the winner CC JONES. He will need a slice of luck, but is in the mix.
SELECTIONS: NEWMERELLA LADYKAY (5), ALLSTAR SEA (3), DARBY BRIGHTS (2), COBBLER LANE (7)
SUGGESTED BET: NEWMERELLA LADYKAY (5) to win
RISKY BUZINESS (3) finished over the top of them in a TrotRods heat here 3 starts back, hitting the line in nice order in the shortened format. Eased to find the pegs from gate 6 over the AP mile at his next outing, he was working home nicely and here on Thursday, wasn’t far from NEWMERELLA LADYKAY. This looks to be the right type of contest.
PITTSWORTH MAN (7) will find this assignment easier than his latest outing when charging home in the closing stages to be 4m from the winner NOTORIUS. Gunned down at Marburg the start prior, he lands the options as the lone 2nd line runner and will get his chance to break a winless streak dating back close to 2 years.
DESPONDENT (1) did it the hard way last start when having his 1st outing following a stable switch to the Markey yard and faded over the AP mile. 3rd at Marburg the start prior, back to the small track from this alley is a big plus.
MISS CATALINA (4) was finding the line nicely in a mares qualifier 2 starts back when 8m from the winner CHINNOK WINDS. She couldn’t go with them in the closing stages on Thursday, but can chime in here.
SELECTIONS: RISKY BUZINESS (3), PITTSWORTH MAN (7), DESPONDENT (1), MISS CATALINA (4)
SUGGESTED BET: RISKY BUZINESS (3) to win
WITH THE BAND (5) returned from a spell in dynamic fashion when stooping the TrotRods Clock in 64.8 seconds, with a power running display to claim the fastest time bonus. Sent for a break after claiming a big win in a Lady Drivers Invitation, doing it all out in front, she finds another suitable target 2nd up and can add another victory.
JILLIBY GIZMO (1) started from gate 6 last start and was forced to roll the sleeves when sent forward to sit outside the leader. Grinding it out, he was in for the fight when only 2m in arrears of the winner. Not far from TIZ A SIZZLER the start prior, he can make the most of the good gate.
PACIFIC COIN (3) claimed a 2nd division qualifier over the mile 3 starts back when finding the pegs and using the passing lane to arrive. Down the line in both starts since, he can bounce back in this.
ALWAYS AT NIGHT (7) started from inside the 2nd line last start when holding the trail and finishing with 2m of the winner when using the passing lane. With another easy trip on offer he will probe.
SELECTIONS: WITH THE BAND (5), JILLIBY GIZMO (1), PACIFIC COIN (3), ALWAYS AT NIGHT (7)
PATCHWORK JET (3) has been a model of consistency, finishing in the top-3 in 13 of his past 18 outings, the latest when attacking the line nicely in the closing stages to grab the silver over the 1780m. Too strong in a TrotRods scamper 2 starts back, he might just be able to snare the pocket trail and from there or the running line, this is within reach.
ALL GOOD WALLY (8) settled back in the pack from gate 5 last start over the sprint trip, working home over the top of them to claim victory over PATCHWORK JET. They were to sharp for him the start prior over the AP mile and while his numbers are good the, distance will ask a big question.
IFYOUBELIEVE (6) made a mess of things at release last time out and faces the ODM embargo here as a result. Only beaten a half-neck the start prior, he has racked up plenty of minors this season and can add to that tally here.
SOMEBEACHSOMEGIFT (4) will take plenty of benefit from his 1st up run here in Qld when returning from almost 3 years on the sidelines. With 2 trials in readiness for the return, he can feature here.
SELECTIONS: PATCHWORK JET (3), ALL GOOD WALLY (8), IFYOUBELIEVE (6), SOMEBEACHSOMEGIFT (4)
SUGGESTED BET: PATCHWORK JET (3) to win
PEGGY STARDUST (3) has found another ideal assignment after finishing in the quinella at her past 4 in succession. Grabbed late by the in-form CHUMP CHOP 4 starts back, she overcame an error at her next outing to score a tidy victory. Runner-up her past 2, the latest when 1.5m in arrears, she looks to have their measure.
PRIVATE JUJON (6) doesn’t have many favours from this alley, but he might just have enough of an edge over his opponents to get into the money. Sent to the breeze last start from gate 4, he was in for the fight when mid-field from WHATELEY. 4m away at Marburg the start prior, he won’t be far away.
THE LAST DRAGON (8) finished best to claim victory here 5 starts back and from the inside 2nd line made it successive wins at his next appearance. 5th at his past 3 in a row, he can chime in late here.
BERTILS DELIGHT (7) will need a slice of luck to see some space, but should secure an easy ride in transit. Down the line last start, she will be probing for the openings.
SELECTIONS: PEGGY STARDUST (3), PRIVATE JUJON (6), THE LAST DRAGON (8), BERTILS DELIGHT (7)
SUGGESTED BET: PEGGY STARDUST (3) to win
