Eric Thomson Memorial winner Painted Picture furthered his credentials as a future star with an eye catching win in the 5th Grade (Race 2) at Albion Park last Thursday.

Using the same blistering early speed that won him the Eric Thomson Memorial, the sprinter easily crossed the field for an all the way victory.

Trainer Tony Brett was impressed with the performance.

“He’s always had those early sectionals, but I’m most pleased to see him come home in under thirteen seconds for the first time, which tells me he’s getting stronger with each run,” Brett said.

“I’m lucky to have a pretty talented dog on my hands, so I don’t want to dent his confidence putting him in too tough a company when he’s young, so we’ll just go through the grades.”

Azariah a dog at the opposite end of her career showed similar box manners to burn off the inside dogs from Box Seven for another wire to wire victory in the Masters.'

Trainer Robin Palmer said the veteran chaser executed her race pattern perfectly and was showing no signs of slowing down after 121 career starts.

“That’s her go to jump and cross them, she’s drawn out wide the last few weeks and got the start perfect tonight,” Palmer said.

"She just loves racing, everything she does at home and on race day tells us she’s still got plenty in the tank.”

Race Five was the sole 600m contest on the night and provided a ripping battle between race winner Loch Freddie and the fast finishing Silver Stunner, with the former holding on for a gritty victory.

Out of the in form Tzouvelis kennel Loch Freddie backed up good form behind Lismore Cup Placed Fabrique and kennel mate and Group 3 Gold Coast Cup winner Del Rey to cling on.

Brother Desy for Peter Wilson may soon be crossing paths with Loch Freddie over the 600m as trainer Peter Wilson signalled his intentions to step the dog up after his victory over the 520m in the sixth event.

“When he landed only a couple off them down the back I thought he was a big chance and he did just enough to get in,” Wilson said.

The plan was to always get him back up over the 600 after a bit of fitness and the way he closed off tonight that’s where we’ll go now.”

Can’t Possibly for Dean Turley caused a boil over in race seven going head to head with the odds on Fernando Blaster for Terry Jordan, pulling away in the straight for a tidy 30.09 victory, Turley rapt with the run.

“That’s his best time yet (30.09), I thought we were in a bit of trouble when Terry’s dog drew up alongside us down the back but he found a bit extra I didn’t know he had in the finish, Turley said.

Fab Fit had been having trouble running out a strong 520 for Darren Russell, but a huge turn of pace out of the boxes ensured he got home in the Grade 5 eight.

“I never get too carried away when he gets to the lead, he’s been a bit soft late but that was a bit better tonigh,” Russell said.

“I think I’ll take him to Ipswich now probably over the shorter courses.”

Wise Misty got back to winning ways in the Best 8.

After finishing behind the flying Maurice Minor last week, the chaser bounced from the four to trail Jury down the back before finishing off the better for owner trainer Craig Hazelgrove, in 29.91 the best of the night.

And You Are for Sandra Hunt closed the card with another runaway performance from box seven, the result never in doubt after finding clear air early.

I was nervous early because I knew the eight liked to get to the rail, but fortunately he went easy on us and once he gets clear air that’s generally what he does,” Hunt said.

I’ll just keep him coming back on Thursday night’s it’s all about confidence for him so while he’s racing well I won’t be changing anything up.”
