Volkoff has broken the track record over the 1050m for Bryan and Daniel Guy, in what was a thrilling three-way finish in the Hillross Montefiore and Co Open Handicap, setting the new mark at 59.17 seconds.

The mare stalked the speed on the fence with Mark Du Plessis finding a run at the perfect time to win by a short nose.

Daniel Guy said he always knew the fence was the place to be and Du Plessis executed perfectly.

“She (Volkoff) has a bit of a habit of drifting, so I told Mark to hold her in as long as he could, and she found another leg late for us.”

Volkoff has only been with the stable since May and Guy said the former Western Australian had been a welcome addition to the team.

“We’ve only had her in the stable since May and she’s been nothing but professional,” he said.

“Steve Hawkins (former Gold Coast Race Caller) picked her up at the Magic Millions and recommended we take her on.”

“She’s just a tough race horse, loves her work around home.”

Following her twelfth race win from thirty starts, Guy said he was starting to eye some Black Type races for her in the summer carnival.

“We’ll head towards the Just Now Fillies and Mares race in early December, I think she’ll be cherry ripe for the 1350m by then.”
