Soft track specialist Prue's Angel's ability to 'make her own luck' could propel her towards a Queensland Summer Racing Carnival campaign, jockey Brad Stewart says.
The Tony Gollan-trained mare bounced back from a last-start defeat on heavy ground to win the Fillies and Mares Class 6 Plate (Race 2) at Doomben today, taking her soft track record to five wins from 10 attempts.
Steward elected to sit outside Mishani Electra on Prue's Angel and the pair settled down to fight out the finish, with Hearts Lifted running home strongly to finish third. The well-backed Oradonna finished fourth.
"The last couple of runs have been below par for her standards so I didn’t know what to expect but she put herself in good spot and got away with it," Stewart said.
"She didn’t’ run terrible (last time) but it was a little wetter than what she likes, she just likes a bit of sting out of the track.
"The track’s improving and they’re running time on it."
Stewart said Prue's Angel could measure up in the right race over the 2018/19 Queensland Summer Racing Carnival (Nov 17 - Jan 26) which gets under way next month.
"She makes her own luck. Against fillies and mares grade I couldn’t see why she wouldn’t be competitive," he said.
