Racing Queensland can announce last week’s Albion Park meeting, which celebrated the career of retiring broadcaster Paul ‘Dogsy’ Dolan, achieved the highest wagering turnover ever recorded ($3.4 million) for a Queensland greyhound meeting.

The figure eclipses the previous benchmark of $3.2 million set on UBET National Finals night at Albion Park in 2017.

The celebration saw Mr Dolan joined by race-calling friends and colleagues from across Australia to celebrate his 45 years in the industry.

Racing Queensland Chief Operating Officer Adam Wallish said the result was testament to the popularity of Mr Dolan.

“With no group racing programmed for the night it was certainly pleasing to see such heightened interest in the meeting, with punters across Australia tuning in to say farewell to ‘Dogsy’,” Mr Wallish said.

Mr Wallish said a number of factors helped contribute to the success of the night including highly competitive heats of the Publican’s Cup and a 20-minute earlier starting time of 6.20pm.

“But without a doubt the majority of the success of this meeting can be attributed to the Brisbane Greyhound Racing Club-led celebration of ‘Dogsy’s career, including the highly entertaining caller’s medley, which featured five callers sharing the duties in one race.”
