Former Sydney mare Zumbelina boosted her broodmare value and gave premier rider Jeff Lloyd a winning treble at Doomben on Saturday.

Zumbelina also was the second leg of a double for champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller when she powered home to down early leader Fiery Heights by 1-3/4 lengths in the Ascot Plumbing Open Handicap (1350m).

Stella Ombra filled the minor placing, a further 1-1/2 lengths away.

Waller broke a long run of outs from his Gold Coast base earlier in the day when My Giuliano claimed the Madison Cleaning Services Open Handicap (2000m).

Lloyd, who plans to retire before the end of the year, was earlier successful aboard Tawfiq Boy in the Benchmark 80 Handicap (1200m) and From Within in the Class Three Plate (1200m).

Waller sent Zumbelina north for the Listed Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba in April but the daughter of Stratum failed to measure up and was spelled for the remainder of the winter carnival.

Zumbelina returned from a break last month finishing fifth at Doomben and third at the Sunshine Coast which had her primed for her third-up appearance.

Stable foreman Paul Shailer said Zumbelina had more than likely run her last race before heading to the broodmare barn.

“I think she’s heading to the broodmare barn now,” Shailer said.

“She raced in good company in Sydney and any bit of rain helps her.

“She peaked on her run last start at Caloundra when she loomed up to win”

Lloyd was popular with favorite backers when Newcastle visitor Tawfiq Boy overcame difficulties to win the Benchmark 80 Handicap.

Tawfiq Boy wore down the early leaders to score by a half neck over Divine Dice.

It was the five-year-old’s second win from three starts since Newcastle trainer Kris Lees sent him north to dodge the Sydney spring carnival.

Lloyd believes the best is yet to come from Tawfiq Boy if Lees keeps the son of I Am Invincible in Queensland.

Trainer Toby Edmonds was relieved when From Within made it back-to-back wins in the Class Three Plate.

From Within was the middle leg of Lloyd’s treble when the four-year-old led throughout for a decisive 1-1/4 length win over Dream Kisses.

From Within, a $360,000 buy as a yearling, began her career with Waller in Sydney and started equal favourite when she failed in last year’s Magic Million Classic at the Gold Coast.

After two more failures for Waller, From Within transferred to Randwick trainer Ed O’Rourke but the Not A Single Doubt mare failed in all five appearances for her new trainer before heading north to Edmonds’ Gold Coast stables.

“She lost her way a bit down south and now the job is to build up her profile and record up here,” Edmonds said.

Edmonds said he had no plans to send From Within interstate for the spring.
