Trainer - Kelly Schweida

"He had the blinkers on for the first time the other day and didn't jump well and got back in the field."

"We made another adjustment during the week removing the tongue tie but keep the blinkers, the plan was to ride more positively and he pinged out of the gates and was well rated by Steph (Thornton)."

"I thought he'd run well today, but a six and a quarter win is fantastic."

"The Odyssey and Meet Mr Taylor and both in great order and the stablemate (The Tenor) ran well in the placings there, so hopefully it's a big day."

Jockey - Steph Thornton

"I'm riding with a fair bit (of confidence), but that comes down to the horses I'm riding and the people who are supporting me, that was just my second ride for Kelly, so it's nice to get one on the board."

"It worked well I made sure he was nice and switched on and he had a ball out in front he pricked his ears from the 800 to the 600 and I was able to give him a little breather, before a squeeze on the turn and he was off."

"I had a little peak at the big screen and new we had a big break and I didn't have to go to the whip or shake him up at all."

Trainer - Stephen Lee

"This was the longest trip he's covered, but I did put him over 1800 last run last prep and he was doing his best work the last fifty metres."

"He needed a break, but it told me he'd sprint well fresh over a staying trip and he did that today."

"I always thought we'd run the 2000 metres, but the secret is to keep him fresh for that sprint on the end."

"The Port Macquarie Cup is approaching but I'm quite happy coming up here and picking up $40,000."

Jockey - Jake Bayliss

"Over 1350 first up I really had to get to work on him it was far too short and we never got into it last start, but today lined up as an ideal race for him."

"We were confident coming into today and Stephen was bullish about him getting the trip and i was giggling a the 600 the way he was travelling, he'll win plenty for races up over this trip."

Mr-Storm-1.jpg

Jockey - Michael Cahill

"Bevan (Laming) and his family have been great supporters of mine over the years, I won the Stradbroke with them on St. Basil and have had a strong bond since."

"He showed quite a lot of ability early on and didn't really live up to what he's promised, but he's won his last two and I thought he'd go well today."

"Bevan left it up to me how to ride him, I was going to go forward but when he didn't jump too well he had the versatility to drift back a bit and hit the line strong."

"I thought we were going to win by a gap at the top of the straight, but he only really picked up late under some hard riding."

Xanthus-1.jpg

Trainer - Matthew Dunn

"We've always had a big opinion of him we took him through to the QTIS race at Magic Millions last prep and he didn't handle the wet track, but he was domcinant winning his maiden last start and today he showed a bit of fight, he's a racehorse going places."

"The field was probably as good a three-year-olds we've got up here at the moment and keeping in mind he's making the jump from maiden class in good time."

Stewards Comments

"It's our view The Odyssey takes out Xanthus prior to making contact with Fisticuffs."

"At the same stage we're of the view Fisticuffs is shifting inwards towards Xanthus and there is contact there, but the way Xanthus continued to lift we thought it was holding Fisticuffs to the line."

Fortensky-1.jpg

Assistant Trainer - Paul Shailer

"The intentions were to be positive on today, he's had a bad habit of missing the kick which he's been able to shake and that win was coming he's been racing in good form without winning."

"I don't think they went that hard he had a pretty soft time in front and had a good kick in him."

"The Avenger was consistent as always in second and The Lord Mayor obviously wants more distance but I thought he raced really well first up."

Jockey - Matthew McGillivray

"Paul (Shailer) said be aggressive out of the gates be in the first two if you can, it took a little bit of riding to get there, but once he did he completely switched off settled and didn't let anyone past him down the straight."

Better-Refelction-1.jpg

Trainer - John Wiggington

"Good fillies do what she did today, all I said to Ryan was ride her where you feel comfortable today and he stacked them up and made them chase us and we were a bit too quick."

"Her trial over the 900 at Rocky was pretty soft, but she's had a couple of solid gallops since which she came through really well."

"All in all I was pretty confident she'd race well just not that well."

"She had a couple of spurs on her knees after the Magic Millions so the surgeon said we could push forward but we thought we'd sort it out give her time and she's come back better."

Jockey - Ryan Maloney

"She put herself in a perfect position about one hundred metres from the start, she was able to get there so easy I could back the speed off to my liking."

"When a horse pricks its ears at the half mile it's a good sign they're going to let down late and that's how it played out."

"I knew Gem Of Scotland would be out after us but carrying the 55 kilos with the soft run she had i knew she'd have a tough time catching us."

Capital-Connection-1.jpg

Owner - John McCoy

"He came out well last start but he took it to another level today he landed two in front of them."

"The jockeys that have ridden him say he can play up a bit in the barrier but if you get him on the right stride you can see what we did today."

"He couldn't have picked a better day to do it with plenty of leaders giving a good sight, he's a six-year-old now and he's been a ripping horse for us."

Jockey - Brad Stewart

"I knew he could get on the toe a bit in the gates and he was dancing around a bit today, but anticipated in perfectly in the end."

"Putting up those couple of lengths I was able to bring him back to them and then ask for something and he had plenty in the tank."

Race 8 - 4:17PM BRC SPRING RACING CARNIVAL OPEN Handicap (1110 METRES)

1st - Cool Sequence - Steven O'Dea - Steph Thornton

2nd - Meet Mr. Taylor - Kelly Schweida - Mark Du Plessis

3rd - Publishing Power - Mark Currie - Tegan Harrison

Cool-Sequence-1-1.jpg

Trainer - Steven O'Dea

"It's been a really good couple of months for the stable, we had a raft of restricted horses in Cool Sequence, Sienna Rose, Reckless Choice, Scallopini we thought they were well placed this time of the year and it's been good to get Saturday wins with them."

"He's a horse who's got good speed and with a few of the speed horses outside we made it our intention with the light weight to lead and the middle part of the race was not quite as hectic and he gave a good kick."

"Every preparation he's had he's come back a bit stronger, a while ago I thought he might be a mid-week horse but it's a testament to him at eight years old to be racing like he is."

Jockey - Steph Thornton

"There were a few things in our favour today, he was always going to take benfit from the first up run and with 52 kilos on his back once we got to the lead I was confident he'd give a good kick."

"We had a handy one in Meet Mr. Taylor chasing us who had his chance and we were too strong."

Oink-Doomben-1.jpg

Trainer - Kelly Schweida

"He hadn't won for two years and he's gone two in a row today!."

"The kid (Jackson Murphy) rode him really well today I thought he would be in the finish from 1000 metres out."

"First go at the mile today and with the bit weight it took a great ride and right race."

"I think I was running him in the wrong races when he continued to place over the 1200 metres, up to the 1400 and the mile he can really travel."

Jockey -Jackson Murphy

"He's definitely found a new lease on life, they set up a really nice pace for us and I just had to make sure we were close enough to let him run home."

"I think he had a bit left in the tank he really extended that last fifty metres, I'm sure Kelly will find a nice race for him looking for a hattrick next time out."
