Torrential rain that saw 104mm dumped on Doomben in the space of 30 minutes resulted in the abandonment of today's (Friday's) meeting.

The abandonment meant that only one of the three scheduled TAB Origin Jockey Series races was run.

As he did in the 2018, Brett Prebble won the opening race of the series. Prebble piloted the Dale Groves-trained Niatross to a comfortable 2.25 length victory with Queensland's Jim Byrne in second and New South Welshman Michael Rodd in third.

Heading into day 2 of the series at Eagle Farm on Saturday, Victoria hold a two point lead over Queensland.
