Injured jockey Jim Orman hopes to be back in time for the $10.25 million The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday next month after breaking his hand in a track mishap.

“I was cantering around to the barriers at the Doomben barrier trials on Tuesday when the horse I was riding whipped around suddenly,” Orman said.

“I’ve broken the metacarpal in my right hand and the doctor says I may be out for six weeks but I’ll be back in time for the Magic Millions.”

The popular hoop had started the new season in fine form, riding a winning double last Saturday afternoon at Doomben, as well as leading the Queensland Jockeys' Premiership with 51 victories so far.

Orman was set to partner veteran Toowoomba stayer Niccanova in the Listed Brisbane Handicap at Doomben on Friday and had a number of top rides lined up for the TAB Queensland Summer Racing Carnival.

Toowoomba trainer Steve Tregea snapped up fellow top jockey Ryan Maloney as a replacement for Orman once he went down with his injury concern.

Tregea is hopeful of a two-day Stakes double this week with Niccanova and promising mare Eloquently, who runs in the Listed Just Now Stakes over 1300 metres at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

James Orman Next Racing

DSD-2266.JPGNiccanova will be attempting to claim his second Brisbane Handicap after winning the feature in 2019 while Eloquently will dramatically boost her broodmare value if she wins her first Stakes race.

A 10-times winner in 43 starts, Niccanova is coming off a last start third to the Tony Gollan-trained Tambo’s Mate in the Listed Recognition Stakes.

“He’s come through his last run well and this looks a suitable race for him,” Tregea said.

Eloquently looks like filling the void for Tregea’s star galloper Incentivise if the Group 1 Caulfield Cup winner misses next year’s Queensland Winter Carnival following his well-publicised injury concerns.

Eloquently has won six of her 11 starts and was a brave second to rising star Miami Fleiss in the Listed Tattersall’s Classic at Doomben last week.

“She’s backing-up for the third week in a row but she’s very tough,” Tregea said.

“She’s also pulled up well but she’ll need a lot of luck after drawing the outside alley.”

Eloquently will again be ridden by Anthony Allen, who has been associated with the daughter of Poet’s Voice in four of her six wins.

Tregea was unsure whether Eloquently would proceed to the Queensland Winter Carnival following her summer assignments.
