Racing Queensland today announced that it has commenced a holistic review of its greyhound racing grading procedures.

All aspects of the current grading procedures, which were last subjected to a major review in 2013, will be open to consideration and potential change.

The review will include a thorough assessment of inter-state grading procedures and will be underpinned by strong consultation with stakeholders, including industry participants, the Greyhound Advisory Panel and the Queensland greyhound racing clubs.

Industry stakeholders are encouraged to provide a submission to the grading review with first phase submissions being accepted until close of business on Friday, March 4, 2022.

A grading feedback submission guide has been prepared with input sought on the following key matters:

  • Order of entry;
  • Field selection methodology;
  • Guarding;
  • Mixed grade racing;
  • Race Classes and the Grading Ladder; and
  • Pathways and Masters racing.

RQ Executive General Manager Operations Adam Wallish said the review presented as an exciting opportunity to reassess and refresh the grading procedures, whilst optimising transparency levels - and modernising - in line with the industry’s future direction.

“The objective will be to deliver a fair, equitable and transparent system for all participants that drives competitive racing of the highest standard and maximises the racing careers of Queensland greyhounds,” Mr Wallish said.

“The new system will need to account for the future needs of the industry which will include the development of the Greater Brisbane Greyhound Centre.

“Given this, it is vital that RQ seek feedback from industry stakeholders to identify strengths and weaknesses with the current grading procedures, and to fully explore opportunities for improvement.”
