The $8.9 million redevelopment of the Sunshine Coast Turf Club is now complete.

While stage one of the project featured the installation of a new all-weather Polytrack, which hosted its first meeting at Corbould Park in late November, stage two was completed prior to Christmas including:

  • Irrigation (inside and outside) to the Polytrack and the Plough Track;
  • The reinstatement of a temporary cross-over to the course proper was with a ‘ready to play’ grass surface;
  • Drainage improvements to the Polytrack, No.2 Grass and Plough Track;
  • The Plough Track was remediated with footing material from the Cushion Track inclusive of plinths;
  • Extensions to the Polytrack land bridges at starting locations; and
  • Installation of new plastic rail.

With $2.5 million funded through the Racing Infrastructure Fund, and co-funding contributions from Racing Queensland, SCTC and the Sunshine Coast Racing Unit Trust, the multi-million redevelopment has now been handed over.

“The Sunshine Coast Turf Club is one of the state’s most important training and racing facilities and this upgrade will support the sustainability of the racing industry for many years to come” Racing Minister Grace Grace said.

“The installation of the Polytrack has paid immediate dividends, hosting several meetings that otherwise would have been abandoned due to the wet weather in South East Queensland.

“Just as importantly, 24 jobs were created to deliver the project, ensuring upgraded facilities for Sunshine Coast trainers, and once again reinforces the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to racing in this state.”

A second Polytrack will be installed in South East Queensland as part of the $38 million redevelopment of the Gold Coast Turf Club.

The redevelopment is expected to create 325 jobs during the construction phase and will add more than $100 million to the Gold Coast economy.

“The completion of the track project now provides SCTC trainers with world-class training facilities,” SCTC Chairman Peter Boyce said.

“The racecourse has long been regarded as one of the best performing grass tracks in the country and now with the new Polytrack, upgraded No.2 Grass and synthetic Plough Track, the club can provide outstanding options for trainers on the Sunshine Coast.”
