Queensland’s country racing legend Fab’s Cowboy scored the second easiest win of his illustrious career with a 10-length demolition job at his home track at Moranbah on Saturday.
In his stroll around Treasure Park racecourse in the Vitrinite Open, “Fab” under apprentice Tyler Leslight recorded an incredible 48th win.
The only time the 10-year-old has bettered Saturday’s winning margin was way back at his second favourite track at Gladstone on March 31, 2018 when he scored by 12 lengths.
“He takes me around and I just love Fab,” a beaming Leslight said after a post race parade down the straight which drew spontaneous applause from the sizeable crowd.
The win was the pinnacle of a very successful day for trainer Billy Johnson (four wins) and Leslight (two) plus numerous placings.
Johnson quinellaed both the Open (1000m) with Han Dynasty and Only Emma and the BM 60 (1170m) through Sole Heir and Von Saga.
He and apprentice Leslight concluded a highly successful days racing for the Moranbah Race Club winning the last race the QTIS BM 55 (1550m) with Froze, a son of the NZ mare Ice Cube.
Toowoomba jockey Rhiannon Payne was rewarded for her efforts to head to Moranbah for the day with wins on Ross Vagg’s Electric Spirit and Johnson Racing’s Solo Heir.
Club president Mel Johnson was elated with all aspects of the Family Fun Day race meeting.
“Actually with so much on around town the crowd was larger than we expected,” Mel said.
A sunny but chilly day brought out the best in winter fashions for ladies and gents alike.
MRC secretary Bianca Bulst praised the visiting jockeys in attendance (Payne - Toowoomba), Faehr (Longreach), Simmons and Doolan (Mackay) and McIver (Rockhampton).
The club made a small presentation of appreciation to each for their efforts in attending.
