Trainer George Clegg is confident of a bold showing from Townsville stayer No Regrets when she makes her Albion Park debut in heat two of the Group 3 Dashing Corsair on Thursday.

Formerly prepared in Victoria, No Regrets joined the Robert Lound kennel in April last year and became a revelation over 643 metres, winning seven from nine, including two track records.

Clegg said the bitch was forced to overcome a hip injury last year and was on track to head south to his kennel to contest 710 metre races at Albion Park, before she was sidelined through injury yet again.

She resumed in April with a pleasing fourth over 380 metres, before winning her next three on the bounce at her favourite trip, the latest being a 37.42 second effort and new track record.

“She’s a lovely bitch but not overly big at 26kg,” Clegg said.

“She’s been here two weeks and has been a wonderful kennel dog.”

Clegg said No Regrets turned in a pleasing trial at Albion Park last Monday and has kept her ticking over ever since.

Out of Mario Briganti’s bitch Red Rocks, the three-and-a-half-year-old by Fernando Bale happens to be a half-sister to Group 2 Flying Amy Classic hopefuls, Big Opal Rocks and Rapaki Rocks.

“I trained a few for Mario a few years back,” Clegg said.

“I also sent Bralyn Casey, the mother of Big Bad Bob – down to him some years ago and she broke track records.”

While Big Opal Rocks and Rapaki Rocks find themselves as favourites for their respective Flying Amy heats, No Regrets will have to overcome one of the shortest priced favourites of the night.

The Warren Nicholls-trained Days Of Thunder returned to Albion Park from an interstate trip in brilliant fashion last week, clocking 41.88 seconds to beat She’s In Clover by five and three-quarter lengths.

After touching $1.85, Days Of Thunder is now $1.35 with TAB.

However, Clegg believes it’s anything but a one-dog race.

“She is very handy bitch,” Clegg said.

“We know she can run 710 metres but not many people know that.

“I think she’s going to lead and can open up a winning break and let the favourite do all the chasing.”

Clegg trained Big Bad Bob – a Group 3 Townsville Cup winner and fan favourite – to 41 wins from 137 starts between 2016 and 2020.

The popular chaser won at nine tracks and from distances as low as 366 metres at Capalaba, to the 710 metres at Albion Park.

“Bob is looking at me right now,” Clegg said from home.

“He’s got a litter on the ground approaching 12 months now.

“They’re out of Power Service owned by Claude Dacey.

“Claude has two pups and he’s started working them and is happy with how they’re progressing.”
