Racing Queensland advises that the Herbert River Jockey Club (Ingham) non-TAB race meeting on Saturday, March 5 has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 13.

The decision has been made following consultation with QRIC on the basis that:

  • The extreme hot weather conditions forecasted to be 40°C for Saturday, and present concerns for the welfare of the horses travelling to and competing at the race meeting; and
  • Potential jockey welfare concerns given the predicted temperatures.

Given the forecasted conditions, the decision to reschedule the meeting has been made 30 hours in advance of its scheduled commencement to mitigate the risk of humans and animals travelling in extreme heat conditions on raceday when the likelihood of an abandonment would be high.

The rescheduled non-TAB meeting to Sunday, March 13 will comprise the same racing program and prize money as was scheduled for this Saturday.

Fresh nominations are called for, closing on Tuesday, March 8 at 11am.

Under Local Rule 37, any horse that was an acceptor for the Ingham race meeting on Saturday may nom/accept for the Cairns Jockey Club TAB race meeting on Tuesday, March 8 – prior to the close of such acceptances -  which have been extended until 11am today.
