The Sunshine Coast Turf Club, in conjunction with Racing Queensland, has announced a prize money increase for the 2022 Listed Landsborough Hotel Caloundra Cup (2400m) from $175,000 to $300,000.
The prize money increase is part of a plan to ensure the final day of the TAB Queensland Racing Carnival finishes with a premium racing program and ensures a quality raceday for the Sunshine Coast Turf Club.
Due to COVID and inclement weather, the Club has not been able to run a traditional race program and key lead up social events since 2019.
As part of the marketing activity for this year’s event, the Club will host a variety of lead up events including the Give Me 5 Ladies Lunch and the TAB Calcutta Lunch.
Together with new hospitality packages and live on course entertainment, there will be plenty of options available for people to celebrate the final day of the Carnival.
“Caloundra Cup Day is a key meeting for the Club and the local community as part of the Winter Carnival and it is important that we provide premium prizemoney for our feature races on the day," SCTC Chairman Peter Boyce said.
"The Club is prepared to invest in prize money increases and ensure we present the best possible racing on the day, with further increases for 2023 being considered.”
RQ Executive General Manager Operations Adam Wallish, said the Caloundra Cup prize money increase would take this year’s meeting to a new level.
“The Caloundra Cup is one of the highlights of the TAB Queensland Racing Carnival,” he said.
“With $300,000 in stakes on offer, and more than a million across the entire card, the nation’s best trainers will be targeting their horses towards an incredible finish at the Sunshine Coast.”
Other key races on the program will include the $200,000 Group 3 Winx Guineas and the $175,000 Listed TAB Glasshouse Handicap.
