The Team Edmonds juggernaut has rolled on with Vanna Girl securing the Sky Racing Doomben Guineas to bank the first listed race of the winter campaign in Queensland.

Having won four of seven starts entering today, Matty McGillivray ensured the smart filly remained unbeaten over a mile as he steered Vanna Girl to her first black-type win.

With the Queensland Oaks missing from this year’s calendar due to COVID-19, Toby and Trent Edwards will target her at next month’s Group 2 The Roses and she will take a power of beating on exposed form.

Sitting outside of the Michael Costa-trained Supergiant, Vanna Girl had work to do at the 200 but demonstrated her class to score a narrow win.

Ballistic Boy charged down the outside to finish third, while Chris Anderson’s major hope, Profit, was next home but was never in serious contention thanks to the moderate tempo set.

“It was a good effort,” Toby Edmonds said.

“A stakes winner with that filly - 40 grand we paid for her – and she’s worth a bit of money now so that’s great.

“She’s got a lot of scope you know.

“How much further we go I’m not really sure, but we’ll try and stretch her out once more and we will see how we go.”

Having claimed four winners at the Gold Coast yesterday, the Edmonds stable continues to go from strength to strength after training their 100th winner for the season late last month.
