The quest to train a Saturday metropolitan winner for the first time continues for trainer Kacy Fogden at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Fogden is the racing and pre-training manager at Aquis Farm at Canungra in the Gold Coast hinterland and only started training in March.

She landed her first winner with Happy Two Thousand in a midweek race at the Sunshine Coast on July 17 and followed up with her first double with Dubai Tycoon and King’s Full at the same track on July 28.

Originally from New Zealand, Fogden worked for six years with Aquis Farm in the Gold Coast hinterland before branching out to train horses for them and other mainly Asian clients.

Fogden is yet to win a Saturday race but landed her sixth win of her career with White Collar, who won a maiden at the Gold Coast on October 26.

The Aquis Farm owned Doubt Defying will be her only Eagle Farm starter in the Open Handicap (1400m).

Doubt Defying is having his first start for Fogden after winning eight times in 19 starts for previous trainer Steve O’dea.

The six-year-old hasn’t raced since finishing fifth to Sky Boy in the Group 2 Villiers Stakes at Randwick in mid-December.

The son of Not A Single Doubt won last year’s Listed Sale Cup (1600m) in October which earned the gelding a shot at the highest level in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington in November when he finished sixth behind Trap For Fools.

Fogden has given Doubt Defying two barrier trials at Grafton and Deagon to prepare for his first-up assignment.

“I took him to Grafton just for the trip away as travelling can bring a horse on,” Fogden said.

“He’s going well but I fear the 1400 metres might be a bit short for him and he’ll be better suited later on.

“He’s not as sharp as he used to be but it will be amazing if I can win my first metropolitan Saturday race although you’ve got to be realistic about it.”

Doubt Defying has drawn well in barrier four and will be ridden by apprentice Adin Thompson whose three kilogram reduces his weight to 56.5kgs.

Doubt Defying has a good first-up record with two wins from four starts but is yet to win in three starts at Eagle Farm.
