Race 1: Hahn Ultra Maiden Plate - 1200 metres
1st NORUDDER NOCOMPASS 2nd ROMANOV 3rd HAYYLER'S FELL 4th - MARKOVER

MARKOVER - Slow to begin.

YOURS TRUTHFULLY - Inclined to lay in for the majority of the home straight.

Race 2: Col Donovan Memorial BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1600 metres
1st BIRDIE BLITZ 2nd GLACIER EXPRESS 3rd OUR CEE BEE 4th - BEYOND

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey J. Byrne, the rider of OUR CEE BEE which finished 3rd, against GLACIER EXPRESS (Apprentice N. Vuille) being declared 2nd, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official patrol films, and acting on their own observations, stewards established that near the 200 metres OUR CEE BEE laid out onto GLACIER EXPRESS, then approaching the 100 metres GLACIER EXPRESS made momentary contact with OUR CEE BEE, and over the concluding stages OUR CEE BEE continued to lay out. Bearing in mind the circumstances of the incident and the margin of a head between the two runners, stewards could not be satisfied that the interference warranted a reversal of the placings. Accordingly, the protest was dismissed and the judge's placings ordered to stand.

HYPER DRIVE - Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground. Trainer T. Button was advised that a barrier certificate will be required prior to the mare being permitted to race again.

ELLE THE MODEL - When questioned regarding the performance rider stated that the mare had raced flat and connections would consider sending it for a spell.

Race 3: Grandin Class 6 Plate - 1600 metres
1st COVENTRY 2nd WOW FACTOR 3rd TIP RAT 4th - BASHAN

TIP RAT - Near the 1500 metres was eased from the heels of COVENTRY.

CASINO EXPRESS - Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Raced 3 wide throughout. When questioned with regard to the performance, Apprentice stated he was instructed to obtain a midfield position with cover, however given the manner in which the horse raced he was unable to do so.

Race 4: Heineken QTIS 2YO Handicap - 1050 metres
1st ROCKY SUPREME 2nd SICARIO 3rd GESSNER 4th - ISIS AMBER

VIRGIN TERRITORY - Stewards ordered the late scratching of the filly at 2.17 p.m. acting on veterinary advice that the filly had bleeding from a cut to its mouth. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on the filly be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

2¢ in the dollar for the win, for the winner ROCKY SUPREME
4¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, ROCKY SUPREME
3¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, SICARIO
3¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, GESSNER.

REAL DELIGHTFUL - The start was delayed when the filly was reluctant to leave the enclosure and proved difficult during its preliminary. Slow to begin. Trainer advised that the horse will now be spelled. A warning was placed on its race day manners.

ISIS AMBER - Made contact with another runner on jumping.

GASSNER - Bumped by another runner on jumping.

SICARIO - Slow to begin and was eased from the heels of another runner shortly after the start. On returning to scale Apprentice J. Orman reported that his mount raced greenly in the home straight, however made up considerable ground.

CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY - Raced wide without cover throughout.

ROSE OR BUD - Raced wide with cover.

STAR FROM HEAVEN - Shortly after the start made heavy contact with another runner on 2 occasions. Raced wide with cover.

HI SUGAR - Shortly after the start made heavy contact with another runner on 2 occasions, when both runners shifted ground.

ROCKY SUPREME - When questioned regarding the performance, Trainer T Bourke stated at its first start the gelding could not maintain the pace of the race and at its most recent start, it was hampered in the straight, which accounted for its poor performance.

Race 5: Max Day Truck Hire Class 1 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st LITTLE WEALTH 2nd TURKEY BEACH 3rd JEDDA'S GIRL 4th - TAIYOSHIN

VINTAGE COGNAC - Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

DENNIS DENUTO - Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and made contact with JEDDA'S GIRL.

TAIYOSHIN - Raced wide without cover throughout.

WORTH THE TIME - Raced wide without cover throughout.

COLOUR ME GREY - Raced wide with cover.

Shortly after the start FONDUE (Jockey J. Missen) shifted out and tightened IDAHO (Apprentice S. Lacy), which was taken out onto WORTH THE TIME (Apprentice N. Vuille). In the incident APEGASUS (Jockey M. Hellyer) was tightened between WORTH THE TIME and EVA FEROCIA (Apprentice B. Grylls), which shifted in. Jockey Missen was advised to stop and straighten his mounts sooner than he had on this occasion.

Leaving the 800 metres FONDUE shifted out and caused EVA FEROCIA to ease.

IDAHO - Raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 6: Jet Dry Cleaners BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - MIDNIGHT CURFEW 2nd- JEB-S BOY 3rd - EVENTIDE 4th - SMASHER

MIDNIGHT CURFEW - When Apprentice R. Payne was not riding at the meeting stewards permitted Apprentice N. Vuille to be substituted. At the 900 metres raced in restricted room to the inside of ISN'T HE A BEAUTY whilst over-racing, and continued to do so until near the 600 metres. Held up leaving the 400 metres and had to be shifted out to obtain clear running.

OUTBACK LIGHTNING - Raced wide without cover throughout.

JEB'S BOY - Raced wide with cover.

HALFBLOOD PRINCE - Raced wide with cover.

EVENTIDE - Slow to begin. In the early part of the straight was held up and had difficulty obtaining clear running until inside the last 100 metres.

SMASHER - Jockey J. Byrne was reprimanded for using his whip on the gelding on 2 occasions more than permitted under A.R. 137A. Stewards were mindful that this was his first offence under the rule.

RIGHTEOUS MISS - Jockey P. Hammersley was reprimanded for using his whip on the mare 3 times more than permitted under A.R. 137A. In assessing penalty stewards were mindful that this was his first such offence.


Race 7: XXXX Gold Newmarket Open Handicap - 1300 metres
1st LAUTERBRUNNEN 2nd DIVINE SERVICE 3rd DESERT GENERAL 4th - MISCHIEVOUS DEVIL

FLIGHT ACADEMY - Began awkwardly.

MISCHIEVOUS DEVIL - Shifted in onto DESERT GENERAL at the start.

DESERT GENERAL - Bumped at the start.

BUAKAW - Raced wide without cover throughout.

ANYMORE - Raced wide without cover throughout.

LUCKY TOM - When questioned in relation to the performance Apprentice Grylls stated that the gelding began well and it was her intention to lead. She said that she was able to obtain a suitable position behind the leaders; however her mount failed to travel throughout and when placed under pressure near the 500 metres failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was showing an elevated heart rate and making abnormal sounds in the lungs, suspected of being a respiratory infection. Stewards will seek further comment from trainer H. Norman in the coming days.

Race 8: Peter Boodles Quality Meats Ken Russell Memorial Class 3 Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - RISE TO FAME 2nd - VAINACIOUS 3rd - COOL DAYS 4th - SHANZAM

HOT LOVE HIGHWAY - Injured itself in the float en route to the course. Scratched by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 3.37 p.m.

WORTHY HERO - Slow to begin.

CHAIN THE GATE - Slow to begin.

BOOMTOWN BOY - Jumped inwards and made contact with the barrier partition.

CIRCUIT BREAKER - Slow to begin. Near the 900 metres when being restrained hung out and hampered COOL DAYS, which was taken wider.

MANNA GUM - Lost its near fore plate in running.
