Race 1: XXXX GOLD MAIDEN PLATE – 850M
 
STAZZANA -  Stewards acceded to a request from trainer C. Geran to remove all gear and add pre-race ear muffs to the mare. Trainer C. Geran was fined $300 for failing to effect a gear change by the prescribed time. Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
HOAXING – Rider H. Phillips reported that the filly did not appreciate the sand track.
 
FORENSIC AUDITOR – Rider S. Lacy reported that the gelding did not appreciate the sand track.
 
BRIGALOW QUEEN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Rider H. Richardson advised that the filly did not begin well and as a result settled further back than anticipated and then commenced weaken over the concluding stages. She added that trainer would consider removing blinkers prior to next start. Post - race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
DEEP CREEK LAD- As the gelding had not raced since November 2017, underwent a veterinary examination and passed fit to race.
 
EIGHT LETTERS – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 2: RFM MACADAMIAS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP– 1380M
 
UBIRR ROCK – Raced 3 wide with cover throughout. Laid in, in the home straight.
 
GRANDE CASADORA – Stewards questioned jockey K. Gates in relation to her mount racing in a 4 wide position without cover throughout. Jockey Gates explained that her instructions were to lead at all costs. After being slow away, she elected to ride her mount forward in an attempt to obtain a leading position. However when runners to her inside increased tempo she was forced to race in a 4 wide position. She added that the mare was somewhat disappointing its finishing efforts.
 
LAYLA’S LAD – 3 wide with cover throughout.
 
 
Race 3: LINDSAY AUSTRALIA OPEN HANDICAP – 1090M
 
EIGHT OVER – When questioned regarding the riding of the gelding, Apprentice J. Morrow explained that his instructions had been to lead and, after beginning well, he rode the gelding along to secure a forward position to comply with his instructions. He added that when securing the lead the gelding commenced to race keen in the middle stages and that over the concluding stages in his opinion the gelding was somewhat disappointing in its efforts to finish the race off. Trainer G. Richardson confirmed the instructions were to lead and was not critical of apprentice Morrow’s ride.
 
Race 4: BUNDABERG TOYOTA BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP– 850M

Start was delayed when ROYAL EQUIANO was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer C. Vick was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare.
 
CIMARRON KID - Stewards permitted jockey M. Cox to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allotted weight. Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
GODFATHER’S GIRL– Apprentice J. Morrow could offer no explanation for the seemingly disappointing performance.
 
NEED FINANCE – Began awkwardly.
 
HAVASHOUT – Bumped at the start.
 
ROYAL EQUIANO – Laid in, in the home straight.
 
 
Race 5: IRON JACK BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP– 1212M
 
Stewards intend to inquire into an incident near the 1000m where AXIS fell, dislodging its rider M. Cox and resulting in GAMBIT dislodging its rider apprentice L. Dillon. As both riders were transported to hospital for further observation an inquiry will be opened at a later date when all riders involved can attend. A riding replacement for apprentice L. Dillon was made in Race 6 as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Both riders will be advised that they will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.
 
AXIS – Began awkwardly. Fell near the 1000m, dislodging its rider. Post-race veterinary examination revealed superficial laceration to the near for knee and a full thickness wound to the off side knee. Trainer K. Afford was advised that veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding racing again.
 
GAMBIT- Severely inconvenienced and dislodged its rider near the 1000m when AXIS fell. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
SERAMASA – Stewards permitted jockey G. Geran to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allotted weight. Subsequently G. Geran was fined $100, stewards took into consideration his recent good record. Severely inconvenienced neat the 1000m when AXIS fell.
 
WINDQUEST – Inconvenienced by riderless horse approaching the home turn.
 
LIFE BE IN IT - Inconvenienced by riderless horse approaching the 500m.
 
DARK FORCE - Inconvenienced by riderless horse approaching the 500m.
 
MOUNTEBANK - Inconvenienced by riderless horse approaching the home turn.
 
Following the running of this race, fallen riders required medical attention from Queensland Ambulance Officers resulting in the start time for Race 6 to be amended to 4:45pm.
 
Race 6: ULTON BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1090M
 
AGENT ALBERT- As the gelding had not raced since May 2017, underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Subsequently, was declared a late scratching at 1:50pm on veterinary advice. Trainer C. Geran was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding resuming.
 
RED HEAVY – Began awkwardly.
 
ME AS I AM – Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground. Jockey A. Van Der Sanden advised that the mare did not appreciate the sand track and was reluctant to stretch out throughout. Post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
DUELLATOR – Bumped at the start. Approaching the 850 had to be eased when SENKO SIDRA shifted in. Jockey H. Richardson the rider of SENKO SIDRA was advised to exercise more care similar circumstances in the future. Apprentice S. Tomlinson explained that he was obliged to settle further back than what he had anticipated. He added that the gelding in his opinion did not appreciate the kickback.
 
TELLOFF – Began awkwardly.
 
NINE CIGARS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
