SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Gold Coast Saturday 31 March 2018 – Race 6: Apprentice J. Murphy reported that it was not his intention to lead on ALASTRIONA, however after beginning well the mare found itself in the lead and despite his efforts, refused to settle and overraced throughout, which had detrimental effect on its performance.

Race 1: EASTER BONNETT QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

After being fractious in the barriers TELECOM DANEWIN broke through the front gates and galloped riderless for a considerable distance. TELECOM DANEWIN was declared a late scratching at 12:42 pm. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on TELECOM DANEWIN be refunded, with the following deductions to be applied to wagers placed prior to 12:42 pm:

16 cents in the dollar for the win #1
15 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1
9 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #12
17 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #11

Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on TELECOM DANEWIN for its barrier manners. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the forelegs.

After viewing the stewards’ patrol footage in the presence of trainer B. Currie and stewards, N. Tomizawa, the rider of TOP LUCK, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against BRINKMANSHIP (D. Griffin) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the first 200m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, stewards established that after the start TOP LUCK became awkward of its own accord for a short distance before then being hampered by BRINKMANSHIP, which shifted in when crossing forward to the lead. Bearing in mind that the incident took place shortly after the start, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that it had a material effect on the placings, given that both runners were on terms shortly after straightening for home, and subsequently dismissed the protest. At a subsequent inquiry D. Griffin was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear.

LANZOFFANY – Restless in the barriers, removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Began awkwardly. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the horse’s barrier manners.

ANGEL OF WAR – Slow to begin.

TOP LUCK – Put in an awkward stride shortly after the start and was then hampered a short distance later when tightened for room.

MISS START – Connections advised that the horse would attempt to occupy a more forward position if circumstances permit. Commenced to buck shortly after the start and continued to do so before being retired from the event by its rider. Connections were advised that the filly will be required to barrier trial prior to its next start.

Race 2: ANZAC DAY AT BEAUY QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

BARD OF ARMAGH – Fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly, losing 2 lengths. Steadied from heels near the 700m. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, Q. Krogh said that after beginning poorly and mustering speed, he elected to come wide leaving the 600m, however he felt that the horse was under pressure from that point and he felt the horse did not appreciate the tight turning track. It was also noted that nearing the home turn it was bumped by another runner. In assessing today’s performance, jockey Krogh felt it was disappointing and he was of the view that the horse performs best when able to obtain the lead or race in a forward position.

SHADYVALE STAR – Raced three wide without cover.

AETHERIUS – Raced three wide with cover.

FAVOR OF GOD – Had to steady from heels near the 900m.

JOYMAKER – Overraced and raced greenly in the early stages.

Race 3: PICNIC ON THE MEADOW 7TH APRIL MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

Trainer B. Ahrens was fined $100 for the late declaration of J. Orman as rider of KALELARGA.

FOURGRANDMAN – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. After beginning only fairly, despite the efforts of its rider, the horse was unable to take up a forward position.

THE PHILOSOPHER – Lost the off hind plate in running.

MAGICIAN’S SECRET – Raced four wide without cover. Lost the off fore plate in running.

STORM OF STARS – Began to tire near the 400m.

CHASINGWAGTAILS – Slow to begin. Steadied from the heels of a tiring runner near the 200m.

KARLELARGA – Raced three wide with cover.

RIVER OF LOVE – Slow to begin. Held up between the 400m and the 300m.

LYON’S MANE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

DARTH VADER – Stewards approved a late gear alteration in that the blinkers would be removed, due to a clerical error. Fractious in the barriers. Cast both hind plates in running. Returned to the enclosure with blood in its mouth. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

RED ZABELLA – Raced three wide with cover.

TAN TAT WISH – Raced three wide without cover.

Race 4: BARRIER REEF POOLS BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1650M

Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $100 for the late declaration of M. Hellyer as rider of GYPSY MISS.

IDLE SITUATION – Raced three wide with cover before gaining a trailing position two off near the 1200m.

SHARPAMAL – Began awkwardly.

ANYMORE – Raced keenly in the early stages.

SIDETRIP – Raced three wide in the early stages before occupying a forward position near the 1000m.

FUTURE EVENT – Rider L. Dittman reported that his mount began awkwardly and as a consequence settled further back in the field than anticipated.

BINARY – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start.

HOPE ISLAND – Held up between the 500m and the 200m.

Race 5: PSP VIDEO C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M

Trainer B. Dais was fined $100 for the late declaration of M. Palmer as rider of DUELLATOR.

ROK’N’UNDATHESTARS – Began moderately before mustering speed and occupying a forward position. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Raced greenly over the final stages.

SKYSCRAPER – Began awkwardly.

DO A DABL DOYA – Began awkwardly.

RICH TRADITION – Held up between the 300m and the 100m.

Race 6: BEAUDESERT RACE CLUB F&M CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M

ART SHE QUICK was a late scratching at 2:15 pm for veterinary reasons. Trainer G. Cornish was advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.

ZILITOR – Bumped heavily after the start. J. Orman reported that it was his intention to possibly take cover in the race but after being trapped wide he was forced to progress to a position outside the lead.

RED MAKO – Tightened between runners near the 150m.

BEVEILE – Jumped awkwardly, making contact with barrier partition, and then made contact with the hind quarters of another runner.

DEEP LEAD – Jumped awkwardly. Raced three wide throughout. Bumped when tiring near the 150m.

CITRAIN – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide with cover.

COSMOS SEVEN – Connections advised that it would be the preferred option to have the mare race in a forward position with cover. The horse was ridden accordingly. Severely checked on jumping.

HIMALAYAN SALT – Bumped and became unbalanced near the 150m.

INDE ROAR – Jumped awkwardly.

ELITE FORCE – Proved difficult to load, delaying the start. Connections were advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s manners. Raced three wide with cover. Rider Andrew Spinks reported that his mount failed to muster speed from the wide gate and failed to respond to his riding from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination determined that the mare had dislodged its synthetic hoof filler which may have had a bearing on the performance. Jockey Spinks also reported that the mare may not have appreciated the firmer surface today.

Race 7: BEACH TO BUSH 7TH APRIL OPEN H’CAP – 1200M

Trainer D. Hansen was fined $100 for the late declaration of L. Tarrant as rider of URBAN KNIGHT.

Trainer B. Currie was fined $100 for the late declaration of J. Murphy as rider of BREAK TIME.

Trainer B. Wakefield was fined $100 for the late declaration of Andrew Spinks as rider of DENARIUS.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when Andrew Spinks, the rider of 2nd placegetter DENARIUS, exercised his right to view the stewards’ footage over the concluding stages. Upon jockey Spinks indicating that he was satisfied, correct weight was declared.

URBAN KNIGHT – Slow to begin.

WELL SIGHTED – Tightened for room between runners as the start was effected and lost its position. Raced three wide with cover.

I AM THE GENERAL – Steadied from heels approaching the home turn.

YABA DABL DOYA – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

SPICE OF LIFE – Disappointed for a run and had to be severely checked near the 800m. Shortly thereafter, had to be checked severely, resulting in the horse blundering. Apprentice B. Nothdurft, the rider of NEPTUNE PALACE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift in at that point when not sufficiently clear of SPICE OF LIFE. Apprentice Nothdurft’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 7 April and expire at midnight on Monday 16 April 2018. In determining penalty, stewards took into account that the shift was only marginal as well as apprentice Nothdurft’s plea of guilt and his good record in relation to this rule.

FLAMING ACES – Jumped awkwardly.

BREAK TIME – When questioned regarding his riding tactics, apprentice J. Murphy advised that he was instructed to attempt to take up a midfield position, however after beginning reasonably well he was then obliged to take cover in a more rearward position.

DENARIUS – Raced three wide without cover.

NEPTUNE PALACE – Began awkwardly.

MY MAISIE – Bumped heavily by another runner shortly after the start.

Race 8: ANZAC DAY AT THE RACES CLASS 3 PLATE – 1400M

Trainer J. Dann was fined $100 for the late declaration of E. Ljung as rider of ROSADOR.

OVERLAP – Began well and then shortly thereafter bucked on a couple of occasions. A warning was issued. Raced four wide throughout. Cast both hind plates in running.

SALT FLAT – Had to be steadied from heels and blundered for a stride near the 800m when placed in restricted room between RITCHFORD and HALFETI. Stewards noted that a shift from JIMIBRAMZ, which brushed the running rail and hung out, contributed to the incident. ROSADOR also shifted in marginally, which may also have hade a bearing on the tightening to SALT FLAT. RITCHFORD was also steadied at this point.

RITCHFORD – Inconvenienced and steadied near the 800m when a runner ahead was tightened for room. Hung out and was steadied approaching the 600m and again hung out near the home turn.

HALFETI – Jumped awkwardly.

HUMILITY – Raced three wide with cover.

MR ATTITUDE – Bumped and became awkward for a stride near the 1300m. Raced wide throughout.

MAGIC KITTY – Raced three wide with cover. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, N. Tomizawa stated that he was unable to take up an anticipated forward position due to the early speed drawn inside and he was obliged to restrain in an effort to obtain cover further back in the field. Jockey Tomizawa added that when travelling three wide, the mare failed to travel comfortably at any stage of the event and proved disappointing. Stewards intend to speak with trainer B. Currie regarding the horse’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
