In this incident, rider L McCoy stated that SECRET’S SAKE was galloped on severely and as a result, she decided to ease her mount out of the race and not place any further pressure on the mare. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off side hind and a small laceration near the fetlock. Trainer D Reynolds was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to the mare’s next start. Trainer also undertook to report back on the condition of the mare in the coming days.

After viewing the films, rider M Gray lodged a protest alleging interference in the vicinity of the 200m. After hearing submissions from all parties and viewing the available patrol footage, stewards were of the opinion that the interference suffered to LA CELESTINA could not be attributed to ROCKETHEAD and as a result, dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared.
