GENERAL

Upon arriving on course, Stewards inspected the track and upgraded it to a SOFT 5 at 11.30am.

Race 1: O’SHEA’S WINDSOR HOTEL QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

GRATSIE – Eased from the heels GRAND DE LAGO (R. Plumb) which shifted in near the 800m. Jockey R. Plumb was reminded of his obligations when shifting in. Tightened for room and checked at the 350m by THIRD ROCK, which became unbalanced after shifting in abruptly when heavily bumped by MISHANI RULER (N. Tomizawa), which also shifted in at that point. In this incident JUST FAVULOUS, which was racing to the inside, was also inconvenienced. Jockey N. Tomizawa was reprimanded as a result of this incident. Shifted in and made contact with the running rail leaving the 350m, before shifting out abruptly resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced.

MISHANI RULER – Raced 3 wide without cover from the 700m.

ENDLESS SIZZLE – Began awkwardly. Raced greenly in the home straight. Steadied from heels over the concluding stages.

EXPERT REPLY – Slow to muster early speed.

Following the running of this event, the track was upgraded to a GOOD 4.

Race 2: WINDSOR BOTTLE SHOP FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1100M

SNUGGLE POT – Raced 3 wide leaving the 600m.

MACHU PICCHU – Raced keenly in the early stages.

SAY CAVALLO – Hung out for the majority of the event.

Race 3: WINDSOR CATERING SERVICES MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed when MISHANI PILGRIM underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers, and when ROYAL EQUIANO proved reluctant to proceed to the barriers.

Upon arriving at the barriers, jockey Beau Appo was examined by Queensland Ambulance Officers, and subsequently cleared to take his place in the event.

BONDI BATTLE - Laid in in the home straight.

BUCHINSKI – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

CLOWN IN THE MOON – Hung out for the majority of the event. Lost the near side plate in running.

COUNTESS NATALIE – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority of the event.

MISHANI PILGRIM – Trainer B. Currie was fined $200 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Mr. Currie’s recent breach of this same rule. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination upon arriving at the barriers, and passed fit to start. Raced 3 wide for the majority.

ROSIE’S TIARA – Bumped on jumping away. Raced keenly on heels in the early and middle stages.

MEZCAL – Raced greenly in the early stages. Eased from heels near the 700m. Made the home turn wide.

ROYAL EQUIANO – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Trainer J. Crompton was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly. Bumped on jumping away. On return to scale, Apprentice E. Ljung reported that after obtaining a favourable position just off the speed in the early stages, from the 700m she was placed at the heels of runners forward of her mount which were racing greenly.  She added that she was unable to improve into the race and, as a result, she was shuffled further back in the field than she had anticipated at that point. Stewards noted the explanation.

SNOOPER – Raced 3 wide for the majority of the event. Jockey N. Day was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

Race 4: WINDSOR HOTEL MOTEL BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1788M

MURPHY’S HUSTLER – The gelding, which was successful at Roma on 9 November 2017, was issued with a 1 kilogram penalty by Racing Queensland Handicappers.

THE BARRACUDA – Slow to begin. Jockey G. Geran was reprimanded for using his whip on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration the totality of jockey G. Geran’s whip use and the distance of the race.

BRAX – Unable to obtain clear running leaving the 100m.

HAMMERACK – When questioned by Stewards regarding the seemingly disappointing performance, Trainer Mr. T. Dougall could offer no explanation other than that the horse has a history of being somewhat inconsistent in its form. Mr. Dougall also noted that the horse has a poor record at this particular track which may have also contributed the horse’s performance today. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings.

SKYLIGHT – Eased when tightened for room by PET DRAGON (Apprentice H. Phillips), which shifted in when insufficiently clear, when leaving the winning post on the first occasion. Apprentice H. Phillips was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

BRUBAKER – Began awkwardly. Apprentice M. Murphy accidentally dropped his whip near the 550m.

ONEMORE TWIST – Eased when tightened for room by SKYLIGHT, which was taken in by MURPHY’S HUSTLER (Apprentice D. Graham), near the 1200m. Apprentice D. Graham was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

PET DRAGON – Attempted to buck shortly after the start. Trainer J. Hearne was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

Race 5: WINDSOR BISTRO COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1100M

TRIPLE JEOPARDY – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground.

CHESTNUT VALLEY – On return to scale, Apprentice H. Phillips advised that from barrier 1 she rode aggressively in the early stages, however she was somewhat surprised to obtain a leading position, which is contrary to the horse’s previous racing pattern. Stewards noted the explanation.

REJUVENATE – Stewards acceded to the request of Trainer R. Lipp to permit the horse to race with blinkers and a tongue-tie on in today’s event. In granting the request, Stewards acknowledged that Racing Australia had experienced technical difficulties in the days prior to the meeting, which prevented the earlier notification of the gear change. A public announcement was made to this effect on the morning of the race meeting. Raced keenly in the early stages. Disappointed for a run when entering the home straight, and then shifted out and had to steady, which resulted in WRITTENINTHERAIN being inconvenienced at that point. When questioned by Stewards in relation to the seemingly improved performance, Trainer Mr. R. Lipp advised that the gelding was racing second up today, and therefore derived a fitness benefit from its first up start. He added that he applied blinkers to the horse’s gear today which he also felt was to the gelding’s benefit. Mr. Lipp also advised that the horse has previously raced well at this venue, and for all of these reasons he had expected an improved performance from the gelding’s most recent start.

MAN OF LAW – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide without cover until finding a position one off the fence near the 600m.

Race 6: WINDSOR ALL ROUNDERS RQ SUMMER PROV. SERIES – HEAT – BENCHMARK 75 H’CAP – 1200M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable jockey K. Yoshida, the rider of SEQ THE STAR, and Trainer Mr. R. Lipp to ascertain whether they had grounds to lodge a protest. After having an opportunity to view the Stewards patrol footage, both parties elected not to proceed.

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, L. Tilley, the rider of ROOI ROE, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against SAIPAN (App. B. Nothdurft) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that whilst SAIPAIN did shift out over the concluding stages making contact with ROOI ROE, they were not of the view that the interference was sufficient to uphold the protest bearing in mind the proximity of the incident to the finishing line and the final margin of a long neck. Stewards therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. Nevertheless, Apprentice B. Nothdurft, the rider of SAIPAN, was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

ZIP TO THE MOON – Made contact with the barrier partition whilst being loaded, and was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid in in the home straight.

ROOI ROE – Fractious in the barriers.

TINTO ELEMENTO – Tightened for room between runners at the start.

SEQ THE STAR – Checked and forced wider on the track to avoid heels over the concluding stages.

Race 7: WINDSOR MYALL CREEK CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M

MJOLNIR – Jockey R. Wiggins stopped riding his mount over the concluding stages to straighten as it commenced to shift out.

OCCHILUPO – Disappointed for a run when entering the home straight, and shifted out to obtain clear running. Checked and lost ground when DANISH DICTION shifted in when insufficiently clear at the 150m. M. O’Brien, the rider of DANISH DICTION, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at a point she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of OCCHILUPO. M. O’Brien’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 16 December and expire at midnight on Sunday 24 December 2017. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey O’Brien’s guilty plea and her previous good record in relation to this rule.

ROTINDY – Raced wide without cover for the majority.

SIR BAM – Began awkwardly.

BOLD ASSASSIN – Tightened for room at the start.

DANISH DICTION – Tightened for room at the start.

NORTHERN REVENGE – Declared a late scratching at 11.30am on veterinary advice.

DUBLEO’S LAD – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. Checked and lost ground when DANISH DICTION shifted in when insufficiently clear at the 50m. M. O’Brien, the rider of DANISH DICTION, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that at a point she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DUBLEO’S LAD. M. O’Brien’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 16 December and expire at midnight on Sunday 24 December 2017, to serve concurrently with jockey M. O’Brien’s separate suspension in this race. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey M. O’Brien’s guilty plea and her previous good record in relation to this rule.
