Race 1: MURRAYS TYRES & MORE QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 800M

ARCHADE – Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer D. Forster for the gelding to race without blinkers. Ms Forster advised that following the horse’s first start she believed she had removed the blinkers from the horse’s gear, however she acknowledged that this gear change had not been effected. Ms Forster added that as the gelding was only having its second race start she wished for the horse to race without blinkers as its trackwork and jumpouts leading up to today’s event occurred without that gear. Nevertheless, Ms Forster was fined $200 for failing to effect a gear change by the prescribed time. Steadied to avoid heels shortly after the start.

BERGINS POCKET – Hung out rounding the home turn and shifted wider on the track. Trainer P. Duff was advised that a warning will be placed on the horse’s racing manners.

GOLD EPAULETTE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Apprentice J. Murphy reported that his mount raced greenly throughout.

LOVE YOU LUCY – Began awkwardly, and was bumped shortly after the start.

VANZANT – Declared a late scratching at 9.50am on veterinary advice.

Race 2: BOB LAFFY ELECTRONICS BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 800M

CLINT – Severely tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

POETIC DRAGON – Began awkwardly. Hung out rounding the turn near the 400m and shifted wider on the track.

MANDELA DREAMING – Tightened for room and checked approaching the 600m and, as a result, lost ground. Jockey L. McCoy, the rider of MUSIC SCENE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 600m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GOLFING and MANDELA DREAMING resulting in those runners being tightened for room. In this incident, MANDELA DREAMING was checked and lost ground. Jockey L. McCoy’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, to commence at midnight on Saturday 7 April 2018 and expire at midnight on Sunday 15 April 2018. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account jockey McCoy’s guilty plea and her good record in relation to this rule.

INFINITE LEE – Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced.

Race 3: NEW STATE BUILDERS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1400M

MORE FRIENDS – Stewards questioned jockey B. Stewart in relation to his riding in the home straight. Jockey Stewart advised that his mount hung out rounding the home turn and was on one rein in the early stages of the home straight. He added that near the 150m he attempted to obtain clear running to the inside of DE BANDIT VEGA however when that runner laid in slightly, and PIGINARKI improved quickly to his inside, his mount was disappointed for this run. He further added that from this point he felt the gelding had peaked on its run, and he desisted from riding it out over the concluding stages. Stewards noted the explanation, however jockey Stewart was advised of the expectation for him to place his mounts under more pressure over the concluding stages than he did on this occasion. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

VELITES – Began awkwardly.

PIGINARKI – Had difficulty obtaining clear running leaving the 200m. Jockey R. Williams reported that, in her opinion, the filly raced somewhat dour today and she believes that at this stage of its preparation it would be better suited in races over a greater distance than that of today’s event.

BOOTIFULBLUE – Bumped at the start, and raced in restricted room in the early stages.

ROSCOMMON – Raced wide without cover throughout.

STARZARINA – Bumped at the start.

Following the running of this race, Apprentice N. Keal was assessed by Queensland Ambulance Officers and was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.

Race 4: MR. WHIPPY BENCHMARK 58 H’CAP – 1788M

Prior to the declaration of correct weight, the connections of CAPTAIN TREASURE reviewed the Stewards Patrol footage to ascertain whether the horse had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the film, the connections advised that they did not wish to proceed with an application that the horse be declared a non-runner.

HIGH AFRICAINE – Apprentice C. Gallagher reported that his mount was not comfortable on the firm track surface today and, in his opinion, this was the reason for its disappointing performance. Trainer B. Currie agreed that the firm track was the likely cause of the horse’s poor performance.

DAZZLE EM SID – Apprentice Goldsbury advised that the gelding failed to travel strongly at any stage and was disappointing. She added that, in her opinion, the horse was reluctant to stretch out on the firm track today. Trainer M. Kropp agreed that the firm track was the likely cause of the horse’s poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

TISANI GREY – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.

CAPTAIN TREASURE – Slow to begin.

RUNAWAY RULER – Raced in restricted room for a short distance whilst exiting the home straight on the first occasion.

Following the running of this race, Apprentice N. Keal was stood down from his remaining engagements due to illness. Apprentice Keal was advised that he will require a medical clearance prior to riding again.

Race 5: ICON STEEL BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1000M

DYLAN’S LUCK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MR BOXVALE – Tightened for room at the start.

STICK WITH ME – Began awkwardly.

EXCEEDINGLY KOOL – Commenced to hang out shortly after the start and proved difficult to ride.

Race 6: KNOX POSTLE VETERINARY CLASS 3 H’CAP – 1200M

CLIVEDEN – Trainer P. Sexton was fined $100 for the late declaration of Apprentice M. Schrapel as rider. Raced wide throughout.

AQUA DELAGO – Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that his mount failed to stretch out on the firm surface today.

AMERICAN FRONTIER – Raced wide without cover during the early and middle stages.

DEUS – As Apprentice N. Keal was stood down due to illness following Race 4, Apprentice J. Murphy was substituted as rider. Began awkwardly, and made contact with another runner on two occasions in the early stages and, as a result, lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the near foreleg.

HAYLEE PRINCE – Steadied from heels near the 50m.

Race 7: THE DALBY PICNIC’S 28 APRIL 2018 CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1400M

BRAD BE BOLD – A pre-race veterinary inspection cleared the horse to race. Raced wide without cover throughout.

ROMAKASH – Trainer M. Kropp advised Stewards that, if circumstances permit, it is the intention for the gelding to be ridden further back in the field than its previous start. Reared very high in the barrier as the gate opened and struck its head on the barrier partition and, as a result, lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.

NERO D’AVOLA – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

COURTING JOY – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced in restricted room to the inside of EXPLOSIVE EVIE (Apprentice J. Murphy) which shifted out in an endeavour to secure clear running when not completely clear. Apprentice J. Murphy was reprimanded under AR. 137(a) as a result of this incident.
